Well done Al (and son).
At least the carb result was better than the footie result  :-\.

Back in the 90’s when the Fireblade was the bike to have it was well known they offered more performance if run in hard as opposed to gently. I'm not sure about the longevity of the motor though over time. A mate bought a second hand blade and within a couple of years it smoked badly.
I've always been careful with running in not to labour the engine but not to thrash it either, basically a normal style of sedate riding, if you overthink what revs you are doing you'll loose concentration of where you are going, rev it with your ears and not your eyes 🙂.

I think I'd try the more gentle hot water method first in an ultrasonic bath with some carb cleaner fluid added.
This could be followed by a good dose of carb cleaner on the pivot and then another hot bath. You'd have to really careful if using a naked flame with the solder on the float being so close by.

Looks like you've lucked out as they say Alan. All seems to be in very good condition inwardly and maybe it's just cosmetically challenged due to poor storage.

You kept this one quiet James 🤫.
What's the story, history, rebuild photos and what you are planning to do with it?
Looks amazing as always, great restoration and fantastic colour 👍

Nice work John. I can't remember when I last saw a 2-stroke in London. The smell of a stroker running on synthetic racing oil was always great, just like a speedway bike on Castor oil.

I noticed that Bryan.
Why did they have to make Fuzz act as some kind of newbie when it came to the control's etc of the bike when he is seen every week on Henry Cole's programs taking about, fixing and riding bikes!
They hardly showed any of the engine rebuild and nothing at all to do with the bottom end. One minute then bike is a wreck and the next the frame etc has all been painted, the chrome is finished and it's 80% complete!

Back in 2019 the Tory government appointed Ester McVey as the minister without portfolio but really known as the minister for common sense. Following Labour's victory she wasn't replaced and she took the limited parliamentary common sense with her!

Everything to do with 400's 🤡 Although there were one or two 400/4s bought new from Jackie Shearers back in the day, as far as I can see there were no banana yellow ones!  In fact my red one might be the only 400/4 in Orkney.  Oh, and by the way, it is Orkney or the Orkney Isles but never 'the Orkneys'.
But back to the story - a supermarket with 5 letters needed an order for 380 Kg but someone ordered 380 boxes - easy mistake, our Council does it regularly - wheely bins, crushed stone to name but two.!  They kindly redistributed them to worthy causes.  It would have been a 40 mile round trip for me to have some 'free' bananas!
Johnny might have had some - he's far nearer!

Ian

Forgot to add, we've had lots of ferry cancellations due to bad weather so the nanas couldn't be sent back.

I'll steal Dave's thunder before he gets in. No yellow ones as too fast for island roads. 🙄🙃😜

😂😂

Well done George.
A very worthy cause. What is happening with our loyal armed forces under this government and it's ex-human rights lawyers is shameful. Starmer actually took this case on for no fee and highlights why he cannot be trusted to run the country and especially the defence of it.

Welcome to the forum James and for getting yourself a project.
The issue of a lazy kickstart has been covered previously, here's a link to the thread:

Others maybe along soon with some more advice.

I would really keep the 305 Allan, lovely looking bike and it takes me back to when I was 18 and rode down to Dorking on my CB160 to the BMS (Bruce Main Smith, famous road tester back in the 60's) shop just to buy his Road Test book. The 305 was included (although it may have been the CB72, I dont think the UK got the 305, Ash will know) and it knocked spots off the British bikes of the time with its sophistication. It really does have a classic look to it and judging by your photo its all there, classic biking bliss :)

Good job there 👍.
They are really nice looking bikes considering it's only a 125 with big bike features such as a TLS front brake.
Is that the same bottom end as the 160/175/200?

Great project Allan.
Those open pipes look (and probably sound) glorious 😀.
Keep us posted on progress.
