CB500/550 / Re: Central Wheels Nipples too big!

In defence of CWC I take my bare hubs to them to build, having obtained a quote by email for rims, spokes & tyres.
That way any issues are their problem.

Only issue I had with my 400 was the front tyre was fitted the wrong way round, they collected the wheel by courier and delivered it back f.o.c.

PS For the relatively modest labour charge for building a wheel I have peace of mind.

Hats off to those who build up their own rims, respect.

My last real bodge was 4miles from home, so, a 1 hour walk pushing it, or an 8 minute very careful ride. This was on the 400, and the main fuse had cried enough and I had no spare.  Even though all myn thoughts were scre aming "Don't do this", I found that the small screwdriver bits that we all use nowadays fit the fuseholders perfectly, and yes, this was after I had identified the cause!!!

The screwdriver bit would take some current to blow.  ;D
The loom would burn out first.

I had a metal shrouded plug cap fail driving down to Cornwall in an Automatic Opel Record 1900.
An auto on 3 cylinders is barely able to accelerate. :-[
Car was under warranty, dealership near Bridgewater had no part on stock, also not very helpful.

I used a nappy pin to push into the carbon plug lead , the loop on the pin was made to fit the plug.
It worked a treat, that bodge remained in place for around six weeks as the part was on factory back order in Germany.

I fitted Brembo Carbon Ceramic pads to my 400, I am happy with the performace compared with the  DS ones that came with the bike.

I also have the DS master cylinder, the front brake lever is virtually devoid of free pay with no sponginess.

I had a set of Keyster repair kits as per your photo, they came with my bike, they were purchased some 10-15 years ago by the PO.

The bike runs great on them despite many reporting  that the original brass wear is better cleaned & kept.

Welcome to the Forum Roger, I think a 400 with Gold Wheels is just as fast as a full yellow peril.

I also use Wemoto for throttle & clutch.
I found it worthwhile particularly with the clutch cable to buy the right length.

Back in the 1980s I went to a Classic Car Show at Knebworth Park.

A young lad had a 998 cc Mini Cooper on display, trailered in, it had a front wheel removed so you could see the as new front suspension & brakes. Under the bonnet it was as if it had rolled off the production line that day complete with a Bluecol paper label tied to the radiator.

I chatted to him for a while as I had owned a similar model a decade earlier. It transpired that he had never driven it on the road. The brakes did not work efficiently as he used WD40 on the discs to stop any surface rust.

It was great to see such an original vehicle, afterwards probably envy on my part I thought it was a rich man's toy,
There ought to be a separate class for these Show Ponies that are never used on the road.

Being a student in my early moped/motorcycling days (Circa 1964) I never bought a new bike ever, that did not stop me looking in the windows of local bike dealers or drooling over them in the college bike sheds.

One of my early recollections was how bulbous the silencers were on some Japanes bikes, I saw the 4 into 4 systems as old fashioned. The 4 into 1 whilst visually not symetrical sounded great.

When I started  my 500 restoration I had no intention of fitting a 4 into 4 system, not just cost but what I disliked in 1964/5 I still disliked. Towards the end of my 500 project I had done a U turn - I wanted that 4 into 4 bulbous look.

The launch cost of the 500 4 into 4 Delkevic system made me see the light. 8) 8) 8)

Sorry it's off topic, I fancied a Pink Triangle turntable , just too expensive for me at the time.
I settled for a direct drive Pioneer turntable, dual motor, separate  one for the pick up.

I built up my Cyrus system over several years starting with Pre-Amp, Power Amp CD Player, before adding individual power supplies & Bi-Amping. Downsized the speakers to more compact Bose Acoustimass 5.
Sadly only use it a couple of times a year, I just can't bring myself to part with it.

When Wendy was out back in the 1990s I broke several ornaments that fell off the shelves from the vibration caused by my then huge Mission floor stander speakers that could handle the 100 Watts per channel output.
No wonder I now have dual heating aids.😄

Australian Pink Floyd, saw them at Nottingham, either just before or after the COVID outbreak.

I went with my brother, the audience was a sea of ladies with blue rinse hair do's, there was virtually no one under the age of 65. The isles were awash with Zimmer frames. Fantastic music with film backdrops from the era plus the proper animation when they did "Another brick in the wall".

One of the best live acts I have been to, narrowly beaten by Meat Loaf at NEC Birmingham.

Not sure why, I had a flash back to owning an Opel Rekord Coupe.

It was fitted with an 8 Track Tape Cassette, only tape I had was "Back to Front" by Gilbert O'Sullivan with Clair on the playlist.

I fitted SS rear spacers supplied by Max, he also made a batch of SS Carb shafts

If you PM me I can send his direct contact details.
