Welcome here H
It's never too late to start again. I was absent from riding for twenty years when I got my leg back over the saddle eight years ago, I'm 69 now.

I just took a ride up to Blackheath, being a moonday morning there weren't many bikes about but the usual murders of the Heaths fabled crows were about. They paid my Elen lots of interest, after all a bag on monkey nuts is yummy!

Thanks to bars being set a bit too low the switch gear came into contact with the tank making a hole in the paintwork about the size of a match head, also strip of paint that came away when I took off some masking tape that was supposed to protect the tank when I refitted it.
the effect I reduced by using a fine paint brush to apply some paint first sprayed into a cup, but it isn't very good. Is this the sort of thing a professional can deal with without doing the whole tank again, any tricks among you to share?

Thanks Ian, why not return to civilization yourself? Sea boot socks are available at £8.oo a pair on Seabay. Not that expensive, less than half the price of Fish & Chips in London!

I got quoted about £80.oo by a cobbler I've used for about twenty years. I decided if it took that much it's time to get a new pair.
They are pull on types, something I was on the look out for, not like the ones I had before with a zip on the inside leg. Being a bit short I was prone to damaging my saddle with the zip handle when I threw my leg over the bike. Am I becoming a rare breed for wearing the classic white sea boot socks by default?

You could go second hand with https://www.400fourbits.co.uk/#electrical as to whether they are OE I think you'd have to message Steve there.

CB350/400 / Re: Resto mileage views ?« on: May 09, 2026, 10:52:49 PM »
It is still a 1977 bike, I'm not obsessed with OE parts as long as pattern are good and look the same. On a bike that is nearly 50 years old I wouldn't be very interested in the mileage displayed, we only have the things word for it after all. I also seem to be on my third set of clocks anyway. It is the sound and feel of the engine, and is it oil tight that matters.
I've had lots of work done on my engine and retained the proof of it.

Strange, it does with me sometimes, maybe there's something needing attention?
