Honda-SOHC

We all know that the SOHC 4 started in 1969, initially in the States, but who remembers that also in 1969 Man made his first step onto a different planet, also from the States.

Neil Armstong will be buried today in Cincinnati after passing away last Saturday in his 80's and the good old US of A seems to have totally ignored it.

I watched it on a grainy black and white TV and am still astounded by the engineering and adventure of the task

All of a sudden all the avatars, including mine,  do not show when on the board. There is something in help about this but it does not give any.
What have I/we done and how do i rectify it.

Hi All, I have just finished scanning my early US parts book for the CB750 from the original CB750 up to the CB750K4. There are 167 pages in pdf format. Not all pages were scanned as sometimes the Number details for one picture take up two pages, also some pictures (carbs,exhaust) are on a folded page so two scans were required. Please be advised it is an over 35 yr old paper book so the pages have discolouring and marks, as to be expected from a used works book. An image of the frontispiece is shown so you know what it is.

It does show some of the individual carburettor "O" rings, with part numbers, along with the sizes for a lot of the other "O" rings, information not available from the newer microfiche(s).

Having spent hours standing at the scanner i feel disinclined to give the info away but will only ask

I have in the past been able to supply "O" ring kits to cure the cover leak on the 500/550 oil pump.

Unfortunately my old supplier has changed hands and no longer stocks the "Slow Moving" parts and is not willing to order in quantities i can afford to buy to sell over 5 years!

However to help all out I have been doing some research and discovered that whilst Honda do not list the cover "O" ring as a separate part for the 500/550 the correct size is used on other bikes and so for those in need here are the part numbers and sizes:-

91305-426-003 oil pump cover      46x2
91302-377-000 suction and feed   15x2.5
91302-250-010 casing to block     47x3

OK there are many different methods in Honda manuals for adjusting the cam chain but here is a method i have used for 30+ years which works as long as the tensioner is operating as it should and the camchain still has useable life.

(1) Find a method of turning the crankshaft, this can be
    (a) Kickstart
    (b) spanner on nut on end of crank
    (c) rotating back wheel in gear

Or any other none destructive method you can find.

(2) Put pressure onto your turning method so that the engine is just about to turn but not quite turning.

(3) This is the difficult bit, Whilst holding that engine possition loosen the cam chain adjuster locking bolt/nut and re-tighten. That is the bolt/nut that actualy locks the tensioner not the one that stops the lock undoing!

If the chain is stilll noisy try again in a different position, if its still noisy either the adjuster is siezesd or at its limit and/or the camchain needs replacing.
