Just seen this on eBay , not so sure about black and it looks a little expensive for an unfinished project. You would really want to at least hear the engine running after all that works been carried out https://ebay.us/m/q0TOZj

Hi everyone I have a question about the the cb 400 four front brake , I know that the front brake on this model is not great but after fitting a new master cylinder a new set of hoses and fully bleeding the system the brake lever can be pulled back to within 15mm of the handle bar grips.
I believe it’s probably due to the hoses expanding under pressure as you can feel them expanding under pressure. The answer would probably be to change the hoses for some stainless steel braided hoses to stop this flexing but how much difference does it really make to the effectiveness of the brakes by upgrading the hoses basically is it worth it ?

Hi everyone
I am currently working in China and have found a supplier for the seat rivets used to secure the seat fabric on the cb400 F.
I am going to buy some locally and bring them back to the UK along with the m6 spring washer.
These are currently very expensive in the UK but I can supply them with the spring washer for 50 pence.
Please see photo attached, if anyone is interested please let me know regards Ken

Hi everyone, I am a bit confused which does take much . I have seen posts about the D washers on the CB 500 top yoke clamps which stops you braking the top yoke when fitting the forks see photo attached.
Died this washer Aldo have to be fitted to the Cb 400 four as I can’t see any mention of it in my manual and it doesn’t appear on the CMSNL exploded views and parts list for the 400. So basically my question is should this also be fitted to the CB400 or just the 500 ?

I have just seen this video about a guy in the States re polishing a rusty chrome mudguard, looks interesting although at the start he uses fine emery cloth to remove the rust before he starts polishing. I would not of thought of using emery on chrome because I thought it is a very thin layer and wouldn’t take much to rub through . Has anyone else used this technique on chrome ? https://youtu.be/Ss7CfT41HzQ?si=3klvVXY8IiOcfr8p

Hi everyone
Please see attached photos of an original CB 400 4 exhaust, the overall condition is good except for a scrape on one of the down pipes where the bike has grounded. Apart from that it’s solid with little rust, these original pipes in this condition are rare as hens teeth so if anyone is interested please let me know, if you want to come and see it for yourself no problem.
Regards Ken

Hi everyone, just to let you know I have a tank left over from my build, it is candy red but really needs a repray but it’s solid. One tiny dent but It’s mean tiny on one side and the inside and is fairly clean.
I am going to put it on eBay soon but just thought someone on the group might need one, please see photos attached.

I know this has come up before but my side grab handle was missing when I bought the bike I am working on , just looked at David Silvers and he had an original around £36 and a copy at £14 both before VAT and delivery. Has anyone bought the copy version and is it any good or should I bite the bullet and go for the original ?

Many years ago I had a Cb 400 f2 and I bought it on eBay , the previous owner had fitted the updated regulator rectifier on top of the battery cover as per photo attached.
When I owned my Z1000 I fitted an updated regulator rectifier on the frame with one bolt but soon noticed that it got fairly hot when in use so I made a 1/4 thick square of aluminium the same size and mounted the regulator on to it this acted as a very efficient heat sink which kept it nice and cool. I just wondered what is the preferred way of mounting the regulator/rectifier on the 400 4 so if anyone has any ideas or photos that would be great.
Many thanks regards Ken

Hi everyone just been trying to set up carbs with the Carbtune kit, not as easy as I thought and very time consuming.
I have managed to get the carbs synchronised but the revs at idle go up and down after tightening everything by this I mean they are a little unstable, also I expected that the engine should pick up fairly well after balancing but it seems to be a bit sluggish. I am just wondering if it’s due to the air screw position , I have read that the factory set position is around 1 1/2 turns from fully in and also after this initial setting the position can be adjusted with the bike warmed up and the screws are adjusted to get the highest RPM .
If anyone can advise me as to what sort of vacuum values they are getting for all the carbs at 2000 revs and what their opinion is concerning air screw settings and adjustment.
Many thanks regards Ken

Hi everyone
Looking at getting my bike back on the road but have just been considering the valuation of my bike for insurance purposes. This is very subjective and can vary a great deal as your bike is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, is there a way of getting an accurate valuation ?
You may know an insurance company that is used to dealing with older bikes to get a fair valuation.

I can’t believe how difficult it is to fit the air box on the Cb400 f. First I fitted the carbs and then tried to fit the air box and trying to get the air box rubber joints to fit is externally difficult , the outside ones go on but the two middle ones cylinder 2 and 3 always push back as they come into contact with the carb spigots.
So there must be a trick / tool to make the fitting easier, I have heated the rubber boots and also put a little silicon grease on the outside of the carb spigots and I have managed to fit the air box but the middle two are not fully home.
I am thinking of make a tool to support the back of the air box while I push the air box home, any advice will be very welcome.
