That’s interesting this should just come up - I’m just about to start the process of re-painting my 75 CB400F the “Light Ruby Red”. Searching through the previous forums & information it seems that Honda “Milano” Red is a close match - I’ve just bought a touch up can of this to do some comparisons. General consensus it’s a one step colour rather than vase coat/top coat process - can anyone confirm maybe?

Thanks Laverda Dave - just tried to buy it but because I’m in the UK they won’t sell to here unless I’m spending more than £135 (apparently it’s a VAT issue)!
Still looking 😳😳
Cheers - Bruce

Hi Athame - yes, there’s nothing on his web site but I’m in process of emailing the question to Steve

Hi All
Just re-assembling the CB400F engine & gearbox into its rollong chassis and now (after loads of other wear parts replaced) find the gear positive stopper 24660-377-000 (item 175) pins are badly worn (one loose as well). Would anyone have a “spare” in reasonable condition they’d be willing to dispose of (for a fee of course!)?
These seem to be discontinued although one does appear to be in stock at Motorcyclemopedparts but at over £70 delivered I’m reluctant to fork out (again) that much if there’s a used one available please?
Thanks - Bruce

Athames57 - got one like it too, first thing that got removed and going “spare” if anyone hankers after the 80’s look!

Ah, great - you’re back! Been missing my daily “fix” for over 3 weeks, thank you Steve for the hard work - it is most appreciated! Also thanks to N Julie who has kept me appraised of the issue and letting me know the site was back up today! Bruce

Hi All, I’ve misplaced the gearchange adjusting rod so need to make a new one (originals -new - not available). Can someone kindly give me the measurements please? Total length, thread diameter (6mm? LH & RH thread?) and rod diameter? Many Thanks - Bruce

Thanks Ian - wasn’t sure if anyone has a specific part number for the bush/bearing from Honda as I haven’t got it shown or listed. This should last as well as the original though as long as it’s not run low on oil which I suspect happened previously looking at the excess wear on a few bearings etc!

Did a lot of searching for the bush/bearing for the Counter Shaft (low) gear, removed the old one and it’s a Bi-Metal type, couldn’t find anything that matched the size so opted for a split Bronze Bush (see photo), installed, cut down to correct width, cleaned it up and tried - seems a perfect (I hope) fit, runs smoothly with no “wobble†or side to side movement! Steve @ 400/4 Bits has come back with good pricing but that still leaves me with the Counter Shaft Gear (Low) with a problem - would appreciate if anyone has a link to the bushing if it’s available - there’s a “new†gear on eBay but it doesn’t have the bush in it (assuming they’ve got their part number correct) which suggests a bush might be available!

Apologies for the header query but I’ve a couple of parts required queries.
Just finished the complete rolling Chassis rebuild (minus tank still to be painted) so dragged out all the engine bits that had been squirrelled away for the last 4 years, crankshaft/conrods etc no problem as been collecting expected replacement parts for that area since I bought the bike.
Area I hadn’t looked at were the gearbox components - I’ve now got two items that need replacing - gear main shaft (DSS can get but £400 - double ouch & 400/4 bits has a couple but an unknown quote just yet for one). Please, does anyone a reasonable one going spare they’re willing to part with for a reasonable price?
Second item is the Counter Shaft Gear (23420-377-000) with a badly worn bush - gear not available but has anyone succesfully re-bushed this or have a decent one not wanted please - again, happy to pay a reasonable price for one?
All other parts are available so not worried about bearings/seals replacement etc.
