CB500/550 / fuel tank emblem hole size
« on: June 08, 2026, 09:47:42 AM »
Hi all, quick question for you all please. what should the hole size be for the tank emblem? I have just painted the tank and got replacement clips from nurse Julie, just need to know what size to open the holes up to that have extra paint in them.
Thank you in advance.

Thanks skoti, my main question is more about placing the decal on the primmer coat and mask off for the black and then the Jade green, or try and find the right line, mask of for the black and green then add the decals.
appreciate you comming back to me :-)

CB500/550 / tank decals

Hi All, an unusual question for you all... would you put the decals on a 500 tank then mask off the decal and paint each of the two colours (top and bottom of the decal) or would you try and paint the top and bottom paint line then add the decal before laquare??
many thanks for your ideas.

I think with candy paint, like the flip paint I used, the more you put on, the colour changes. With the flip paint it got lighter the more you used. I had a nightmare of a job matching up a door that had dropped from its holder... even when you add the laquare it changes slightly again. good luck Ash.

Hi Ash, you could give these a go..

I used these when I brought some `flip paint` for a Mini a fews year back, price is good too.
Do you have an auto paint suplier near you, if so they should be able to do a close match and then put in a spray can for you, or a tin for you to put in a gun.

Thanks K2 K6 and Skoti, (K2 K6) problem is that when you take out the clutch spings ect, you have no drive from the clutch so it just turns freely... Skoti, thanks, that will be the solution to undoing, but now need to torque up and have to lock up? I am not sure how to do this without damage. Thank you both for your ideas and help.

Thank you again, started on the clutch strip but the special nut is causing me a problem, I made a tool from an old socket which is fine and fits well, but when I try to undo the nut, the whole lot turns, is there anyway to lock the clutch to undo the special nut please??
many thanks for your help

Thanks again for your input, no paddock stand available, and I think it best to check the clutch... If I eventualy get it into gear, then its hard to get out, so I think this is a clutch issue even though its not `dragging` or `pulling when in gear with the clutch pulled in.

Thanks Brian, I think its best to check the clutch as already suggested... it does go into 1st with a clunk, but it always did that, I will strip the clutch tomorrow and check.
Thank you all.

Just cleaned the carbs and got it running (clutch works) but does not like to go up in the gears, does move a bit now its got warm but hard to move... unfortunatly I could not put on centre stand as it wont fit with the Carpy`s exhaust.
thank you for you comments :-)
