Completely down a lovely tyre rabbit hole now.  My front has 3.50 x19 which has always worked very well.
Many of you use 3.25 and many tyres do not even seem to come in 3.50.  Can anyone offer a balanced view about which is better and why.  I've always favoured having as much rubber as I can get away with and 3.50 front has always worked well thus far.

Oh dear, just trying to order a replacement for my front tyre and found Avon Speedmaster no longer made.

I have Avon SM on rear.  What alternative would suit for the front that would be safe with the rear tyre currently fitted, or am I going to have to buy a pair of something else?

Welcome.  Surprised to hear difficult to start.  I'm sure a good all round service will sort that out.

I have two cars, one from 1968 and the other is from 1994, so no screens for me.

depressing to think my bike is worth more in spares than it is as a complete and functional machine.

I love my 4-1, it really barks.  Really enjoying riding to work on Fridays, 40 mile round trip on country B roads.

When I rebuilt my 500/4 in 1995 I didn't wire up the starter motor and thought I would do it at a later stage.  31 years later and I still haven't got round to it.  It's so easy to kick over, I have never needed it.

I used to have a CS3, slightly older version of essentially the same bike.  For a small bike it was surprisingly fast.  Sadly, being very young and a bit too keen on thrashing it, the crank failed, some of it seemingly blasting out through the exhaust pipes ;D

Out & About / Re: Out and About 2026

I have been riding through winter this year.  I've grown fed up with trying to get the thing running nicely again in the spring coupled with the fact that I do not have a great deal of room to put it inside so it usually sits under an archway outside my studio.  My workshop has my other bike in it and far too many other bits of junk. (classic bike stuff).  There's no space in the tractor shed either. (sheds do have a tendency to fill up)

The salt is making some parts look a bit orange but will apply some more grease when I can remember.  I do avoid the truly awful weather since the week before last I had a car very close to the back of me for several miles on a country road coming home from work in pouring rain.  This particular road has bad flood spots which can take up half the carriageway.  People in cars do not seem to realise their lights cast a big shadow in front of me and my meagre headlamp cannot cope.  I do not want to run into a giant puddle so it makes the ride very unpleasant.  I try to pull over if I can find a safe place but not always easy on country roads.

Still, it is much more fun than being stuck in the car.

CB500/550 / Re: Fuel pipe
« on: January 30, 2026, 09:12:45 AM »
I can't offer an answer and it is a quest I am currently on.  I keep buying different petrol pipes and all seem to have the same problem.

I have got some cloth covered tubing which is better in that it keeps the UV off the rubber but it still splits where it joins my fuel filters as that bit is exposed.

I was wondering about switching to the clear plastic pipe that has a fabric mesh running through although this doesn't look as good as the black rubber type.

Let's hope some combined knowledge might bring about a solution.

Is it a runner?  Looks like it is in very good condition already.

interesting.  My Laser is just a push fit without the need of clamps.  Maybe it's a stainless steel thing.

Why do those Delkevic pipes have springs?  It's the only thing about them I don't like.

seems quite expensive to me, especially given that everything has been made black and still lots to do to finish.
