Title: Bottom End Rebuild
Post by: chunterjam on June 24, 2016, 04:55:49 PM
Folks,

I've stripped my engine down this far to check the PO hadn't butchered the bottom end like he had most of the rest of the bike. Luckily it looks pretty good.

However, seeing as I'm this far...is there anything I should change before rebuild?(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160624/94e7a8e1dac53a90e138ee44ccd0db16.jpg)

Looks like a 500 so change the primary chain as there is no tensioner and the chain eats into the main oil gallery also the 8 damper rubbers in the primary drive to help the chain, then just a seal kit and maybe a cam chain

550 primary chain does not hit the cases quite as bad but still worth changing with the other stuff

Where are these rubbers on the primary drive Bryan? Is that anything to do with the clacking that many of us get on tickover?

The rubbers are not on the primary drive but, in the drive.

The rubbers are inside the primary drive gear on the primary shaft, the big lump the chain drives and has the starter clutch on it, the clanking is usualy the primary chain if the carbs are not in sync
