Just sanding down the engine and found the reason for some very heavy gloss(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160801/70d8b3476e2ac48b67b4572c28b96761.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160801/e627c05901a48f228d8e50ab05cbe2d8.jpg)

What is it, some sort of repair? Or a pinhole in the lacquer allowing moisture to corrode the alloy that someone was too lazy to strip the lacquer and clean, so slapped some paint over it?
-
Looks like filler.
-
Aly-b it's filler that's been put inside as well. (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160801/5fc289cdf52f937376bf0a0fda19ed32.jpg)

Just looked at the pics on my pc rather than my phone. Yes, looks like a repair of some sort. Not that unusual really, when I was much younger and crazy I trashed 3 in a coupe of years, hard riding two up, it didn't have a centre stand, so the alternator cover was the first thing on the left hand side to scrape the road in a fast left hander. It didn't take long to grind right through the alloy and start leaking oil. I did a quick bodge with plumber's solder and a blowtorch first time, with it still on the bike. Stopped the leak till next time! Don't panic, they are all the same for all the 750s, only difference is the F2 one is painted black. There are plenty of good used ones about, and several places still have new old stock ones around £100-150.

Have to agree,a replacement cover is the way to go,looks like the filler is starting to fail.
Probably more bother than it is worth trying to repair it.
-
Normal on the 750 to find this damage.
-
Yep thought as much. Ahh well. Anyone got a good one knocking about.
eBay night again.

Can't understand why there is oil in the case. Looks like the seal has gone.
-
Trigger there was quite a bit in it and I drained the oil months ago. Which seal do I need to replace and is it a big job?
Thanks to this forum I've got a replacement cover on its way.

Very good question. There is no crank seal on that side and there is about half a mm float from the case to the starter cog. I have seen alternator housings dry as a bone, some with a thimble of oil and one once that had over a litre of oil because someone put the seal in round the wrong way.
-
Thanks. Top information.
Can I change it without talking out the starter?

Ordered the seal then remembered that I put the engine on its side while in the frame to remove it. Could that be the reason for the oil being in the generator cover?
I'll still change it while I've got it open but just wondering.
Also when changing the cover are there any do's and don'ts concerning the generator its self?

If you removed the engine on its side and lifted the frame off, it should of been on the points and clutch side. Not the alternator ;)

Hi trigger, that's what I did. I read all the stuff on here and then did what you all said. It's been so long I forgot which way up.
Has any one got the thread size of the bolt that holds the flywheel on. Or is there any one in wolves or Amersham who's got the removal tool that they could hire out.

If you are going to work on all the fours get the genuine Honda one from Dave silver or any Honda dealer 07733-0020001 is the part number. if its a one off i think M & P do one
-
Thanks bryanj, the m and p one might suit my purpose better. ( twin or a stroker next I think)
I'll get searching.
-
There are several listed on ebay but if going for a one model only make sure you get the SOHC one
-

The description sez so and I seem to remember 20mm but its so long ago i can't guarantee it mate
-
Can any one tell me why the 19mm bolt that holds the clutch to the flywheel would be covered in silicon sealant or clear gasket seal when I removed it?
-
Update. I bought the flywheel puller and changed the seal, That was a piece of cake. So if anyone needs to use it and you live close by I'm more than happy to let other members have the use of it.
