Just asking, would my bike qualify since it's a 1977 reg.
-
It will be April 2018 (next year)

Thanks, something to look forward to

It's not done automatically, you need to change the taxation class on your V5 and take it to a post office, although not all know what to do about it, or send it to DVLA yourself when the time comes.
-
I get to confused when it comes to road tax I know its been discussed before but I still can't get me head around it.
Does that mean my 550 registered in September 76 will be tax exempt in April 17
-
Yep - free tax from April Mick!
-
That's good
I did mention it in the post office 4 days ago when I put 12 months on it she had no idea what I was on about
-
you get a refund of any complete months after the April though.
-
Presumably to do that you would need to send the V5 to DVLA to change the taxation class.
I suspect a Post Office would not be able to do it if the bike was already taxed as this would be too confusing.

See screenshot I don't remember paying a £25 fee though
-
OK, thanks Mike. If that works it sounds fine, mine is not exempt until next year anyway and possibly a further spanner in the works as it wasn't registered until 1981. I have all the dating evidence for 1977 manufacture and that is recorded with DVLA although not shown on the V5.
The £25 fee appears to only be if you don't have the V5 so I wouldn't expect you to have paid it (unless you didn't have the V5!).

I shall be going to the post office in April then it will give the old girl something to do.
