Title: Rear wheel Ovalised?
Post by: El__burro on May 03, 2017, 04:27:12 PM
Good day...
Issue is felt mainly when rear brake is applied.
I remember cleaning the hub and brshoes.
Anyone with opinions about this.
Thanks

Brake drum distorted or cracked. Will require skimming in a large lathe if distorted, or replacing if cracked. :'(

So not the wheel, the drum?
Is $kimming cheaper than a new drum..?
Any skimmer in London?
What a blow!
Thanks

There is a guy in Huddersfild who is at least both cheap and very highly reccomended by all accounts. Look over in the cb550 section as his details have just been posted up there.

..thanks, Huddersfield looks a bit far from London, I'll have to send him the rear tyre?
That would add a lot to the final cost.

Hate to put a damper on things, but there is NO WAY on this earth I would ride that having seen those cracks! I'd be on the lookout for a good used hub or wheel, or getting a new liner fitted before riding it again. (Sorry :'()

Now you have seen it, that makes it a liability, if an MOT tester see that now they are duty bound to declare it unfit for the road, you have also now published it a public domain, if you continue to use it in that state you become a liability.

There is no way that that will skim, its either a different wheel or a reline. Doubt you will find any one in London with a big enough lathe to do the assembled wheel, I have visited Paul in Huddersfield and he does not need the work as a business but does it "Because he can"

Don't forget when you signed up for your insurance you say you will keep it in good repair and roadworthy, sorry that don't fit in either category no matter what the MOT says

Thanks, i was happy to pass the MOT so I can get the bike registration complete. I am quite worried about it all, i could barely feel the problem.
Thanks

They would remove the old drum lining, (the iron bit the brake shoes contact which is cracked) and force fit or shrink fit a replacement, then skim it to new spec.  The easiest thing would be to find a decent used wheel and fit that to get on the road, then get the damaged one relined as a spare.

Try D&K breakers for a replacement wheel, or eBay maybe.
