Title: TT 'GP 1947 /8
Post by: captaink on June 14, 2017, 08:02:11 PM
Hi, as its TT time of year I thought I would put a couple of pictures of one my bikes. This 1947 Manx ran on the Isle of Man in 1948 and 1949 coming 19th and 30th in the Junior race 350cc by Jack Blyth
Its other history is still being researched.
In recent years the previous owner registered it and used it on parade runs on the IOM and other events.

Nice piece of history there, what's it like to ride?

Not easy to ride, also it's heavier and taller than my 1957 Manx which is featherweight.
Noisy but nice
Backaches guaranteed
Oil leaks guarenteed
No kickstart so rollers required. The previous owner had long legs and he bump started it.
He also changed the wheels from steel to ally for a better ride, I still have the original wheels.

The riders in the 30's and 40's were brave boys with average speeds over 80 mph.
My bikes race owner on his pre war Norton bikes notched up faster practise times than the great Freddie Frith in the 30's I have the magazines of the day at the IOM.

I thought it might be a bit of a knack riding something of that era, amazing machines though, and their riders as you said.
