Which features on here can 'Lurkers' use. Can they PM ? Do they have access to desperately seeking & stuff for sale on here ?
-
I just logged off to see what facilities were available,
Can see stuff wanted but obviously can’t reply or pm without being logged on and therefore a member. But many lurkers are members! Are you wondering how many posts before full facilities are available - dunno.
Had to log back on to send you this :)

From what I have worked out, if they register as members, they can access everything even if they have never even made a single post or comment.
-
If I pop in without logging on, it all works apart from photos - I can see ones I hosted on photo image etc, but a lot are missing, there’s just a paper clip where they aren’t.
I’m not sure why, or even where they are hosted.

It's just that I had an item for sale on here for yonks and no takers. Then, out of the blue, someone asked me if it was still available. Then shortly afterwards I got a PM from a Lurker saying they wanted to buy and sent me instant payment so no problems at all with the transaction. Mistakenly though , because of the time frames involved, I wrongly assumed the 'lurker' was the the guy asking if they were for sale but seems the person asking in the 1st place was a full member, when I checked back. Just surprised that a 'Lurker' can PM someone other than SteveD or even have access to buy stuff for sale.

I think they have to be a registered member to PM you Ash, the true lurkers that don't join can't send PM s as they need to be registered/logged in to send/ receive messages.

Bloody lurkers, they remind he of people who sit in pubs and public places listening to other people's conversations ,laughing wryly to themselves nodding and disagreeing as if thete involved. same sort of people who just poke their head above the parapet once in a blue moon just to get something they want then retreat
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I wonder how many lurkers will read this

I guess we'll never know. :o

"Guests" can just view the forum (you are a guest if you're not logged in)
"Lurkers" have joined up but not posted. They have the same permissions as everybody else.

Fook me I will soon be a expert. ;D

you'll soon be a what?
-
:) :) That would be a expert. ;) I think.
-
so how many more post do you need?
-
Not many now, its getting close. :)
-
hmmm... will it go to your head, do you think?
-
A difficult question as power often corrupts, but I think it fair to say it will not go to my head. :)
-
well, may i be the first to congratulate you on your achievement!!
-
Thank you, that's very good of you. :) ;) ;D

Ash,
Clearly you are annoyed by the way you have been messed about, and understandably so, but please do not generalise or even categorise all newbies or low volume posters as Lurkers. I like many, visit this forum for the pleasure it gives, yes, to ask for help and if I can contribute or help. For myself, I actually ran a car forum 20 years ago, just after we moved from Bulletin boards and the participating characters have not changed, You get the genuine people, the egotists and the idiots and any forum can be a real double edged sword. I have very few posts on here relative to the time I have been registered, but I have restored 4 honda cb400f’s in the time here( which this forum has given me the confidence to do) , I have pm’d members and purchased direct from them. In fact I have even purchased from yourself via your ebay listings.
I think it’s a great forum and those that post regularly like yourself, help to make it so. Just please don’t tar all low posters with the same brush. I might be shy, lacking confidence, unable to suffer fools, but give me a chance because without the newbies this forum would die.

Not annoyed at all plus not messed around by anyone. BTW just ask anyone on here ..I am often the first to help newbies out ..often giving parts away free. Who do you think put all of the manuals on here and hosts them at my own expense, paying monthly for a Dropbox account that outgrew the freebie version and I often point newbies to them as a first line of help. You have definitely got me wrong . It's just I felt guilty I cocked up and sold some bits to a lurker when somebody else who is a poster had already asked about them. However, I think it's only common courtesy to introduce yourself when you join ..even if that's your one and only post, at least we know who you are.

I’ve read all the posts on the sandcast forum, but never registered because I haven’t had one since 1976.

I agree with you Ash, it is common courtesy. Thanks for doing the Dropbox thing it has been a huge help to me and many others on here. Didn't know you were funding it yourself, never really thought about it to be honest. Anyway well done that man, maybe we should have a whip round to help out.

But you are a 'guest' on there Dave and you wouldn't be able to PM anyone without joining.

I still say it is "ex" as in used to be and "spurt" as in drip under pressure

It's only a few quid a month and not a problem Roy. Someone on here pointed me out to me to use Dropbox and I find it's very easy to use and I would recommend it, even though you have to pay if you need lots of storage. Best thing anyone on here can do is share any docs with me that we don't have already, so that I can make the list more comprehensive.

I think I will give the rubber gear a miss until I turn into a pro. I don't want to stretch things too far. ;)

Not sure about the fairing, but cracking good choice of bike! ;D
-
I was there last time Graham only I was inside with Ash so maybe that's why you missed us. :) :)
I have a pair of latex, crotchless pants if you interested, Ash tried them on but they were a little tight.
Don't start going down the rubber / latex route again, he is in remission at the moment and I want him to stay that way ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I think I'm on the wrong forum! ;) :P

Nope, it's Trig that's on the wrong forum at times !!!. He frequents the Rubber and Latex Forums and gets confused which forum he is posting on sometimes. But the tablets are working and he has punctured all the blow up dolls he made and I have hidden the puncture repair kit. We still have a problem with the pink nail varnish though ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Nothing wrong with nail varnish, although I doubt pink is really Trig's first choice of colour, it's obviously what you happen to leave around young Nursey! ;D Tell him NEVER to use W.D.40 to shine his rubber clothes/toys, it'll rot them in a few hours. Hide your nail polish remover, he might not be so keen to pinch your polish then, as it takes weeks to get off without any, my daughter thought it would be funny to paint my nails sparkly blue one Sunday when I fell asleep after dinner, but she had no polish remover. Had to drive a coach for more than 2 weeks while it wore off! >:([attachimg=1]
