Title: 76 CB750F LH side cover, boy this is fun, now with photo
Post by: Spitfire on July 10, 2007, 06:07:14 PM
Well,
The wheels are off being rebuilt, the braided hoses for the front brake are being made up. so I though I ought to look at the side covers. The original LH side cover is cracked, the RH cover is in good shape. To cover all bets I bought a pattern LH cover, this has been drilled (for the emblem) and both it and the RH cover have been primed.
I have fibre glassed inside the original LH cover to strengthen it, the next job will be to fill and smooth the external crack, no problem there as I am used to making seams disapear on my model kits, but I nearly forgot to drill a hole at the end of the crack.
The spare LH cover that I got on eBay is not in too bad condition except for a badly cracked maroon paint finish (or so I though !), so starting with 280 grit wet and dry I started to sand it, 3 hours latter and down to 80 grit I have discovered the original Honda Phantom black, a grey primer, a blue coat, a white coat, a red coat, and the previously mention maroon coat ! Will start again tomorrow !
While I had the original paint exposed I matched it at Halfords, Ford Graphite grey is very close, will see what it turns out like.

Well all covers repaired, rubbed down, undercoated with Halfords plastic primer, 2 coats of Ford Graphite Grey, one coat of clear, still one coat of clear to go so they look a bit orange peel ish, but I'm happy with the finish so far.

Cheers

Nice job with the side panels, I had a bugger of a job matching mine, are you having your wheels done by the bloke in Warrington?
