Well, the sun was shining, so that was it.....out for a ride on the Honda CD250u. This bike hadn't been started for 5 months, it still had last summers stale old fuel in the tank, pumped up the tyres, checked oil and she fired up 1st touch of the button and ran a dream. Almost 70 miles today, a bit nippy but beautiful in the sun up on the Wolds.

"Taking A Trip Up To Abergavenny, Hoping The Weather Is Fine", 60's pop song! and it looks like the weather was fine ;D ;D and what an interesting town Abergavenny is, i was there at last summers food festival, the place was heaving (lots of people).

Your bike looks lovely John. It's all the fresh air she gets, it keeps her looking healthy ;D

ran a dream.
How very apt for a Honda Twin ;D

My new CB750 tank came back from Menno on Friday, so I dug the bike out of storage in my mate's lockup, fitted the tank and battery, and went for a ride to Compo's Cafe in Holmfirth for fish and chips. A Harley Owners Group chapter from Doncaster was there already, it must be nice if the Harleys are out I thought. When I bought my Sportster new back in 2005 I got a year's free membership of HOG, however after going to one meeting where everyone was wearing leathers but mine was the only bike outside, I never went again. :(

Today was another first, a quick illicit ride on the CL450 on a local dirt road, first time under its own power in decades. No number plate as it hasn't come yet. i won't tell if you don't. ;)

The blue goes well with the mud that is about to cover it! 🙄. It does look very tasty.
Temperature is going to reach 17deg by Friday. Spring is chasing winter away (hopefully 👍).
-
Those make me really jealous, but patience is a virtue.
Cheers
Dennis

I've taken the RSA on a ride to RAF High Wycombe to see the farewell flypast of three Tornado's, very loud🔊👍.
Over 300 running—in miles clocked up during the past week and all is fine, hasn't used a drop of oil and the very slight weep from the rocker shaft appears to have 'self healed' 😊.
-
I think you have been very unlucky previously with yhat 250 as when they were a current bike i dont ever remember doing anything to them except service and one insurance claim where some scrote undid the headlamp and cut through every wire going into the shell so he could have it away------nearly wrote it off that did!

Nice pic Dave. Nice to see you have left the old tax disc on same as me ;D

Of course I have a car for the cold wet days ;D ;D
-
Me too. Bikes are for sunny days , cars are for rainy days plus i think the Varnish blue is the fastest colour 400 ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Bah humbug I'm on some knockout drops at the moment and my doc has banned me from driving for a month or so. Anyway I take a little comfort from seeing a few extra bikes on the road during the sunshine.
-
Varnish cant be faster or they would paint fire engines blue.
-
I see your point Bryan , however the only reason fire engines go fast is the flashing lights which coincidentally are Blue ;D ;D
-
Well, what a great sunny weekend that was - not the CB750K1 yet, but managed to get the Z900 out for a ride on Saturday to Loomies (East Meon) and Sunday was my 58 Triumph TR3A's first outing this year up to Newlands Corner, (Guildford) and it's still only February! 8)

That's a nice toy box you have to play with!

Yes, I'm very lucky as my wife is also a petrolhead - although she likes the bikes, she prefers the TRs.
-
Nice TR there, thought I recognised the location. Parked in that spot a few times too.
I think the Triumph range of cars has a higher percentage of interesting/collectable models than almost any other normal manufacturer. With TR, Spitfire, GT6, Vitesse, Stag, Dolomite Sprint etc. All very interesting.

Thanks, I'm very attached to my TR3A and have owned it for about 18 years.
Newlands Corner is top spot for classic and modern bikes and cars, although the bugger's now charge for parking......
Spot on about the range of cars offered by Triumph which are now considered classic! I would say they were built to last, but most have been rebuilt at least once - my 'affair' with TRs started in 1983 when I bought my first TR6 from a Council compound for £900.
-
The sun was out today (rare in Manchestershire) so I took the CL450 out to Mossley, to buy excellent home made steak pie and chips from Alan & Viv's chippy, not because I needed to, but because I could :) The bike sang as it whizzed along and I had a big smile, it suddenly makes all those hours and £s I spent resurrecting another abandoned bike well worth it.
Parked up outside Mossley station:

Like Dave above on his stunning bike, on this stunning day, we went out for a few hours on the bikes in search of food. Tea, Coffee, 1 x Sausage sarnie, 1 x bacon & egg sarnie all for £6. Bloody lovely food and a bloody lovely ride out.
-
Unlike Dave and Julie I was at work I did get to use the Guzzi though and spend £27 :o in the bakery nearby.
Didn't enjoy my commute had to fight traffic almost the whole way.
Bike looks great Dave I call dibs when you come to sell
-
Went on a Friday breakfast ride out, about 90 miles, with the South Wales Classic Motorcycle Club. There was another 400four there and a GS850, along with a W reg RS100 and assorted new stuff, none of which could keep up.

Well done Dave - the CL450 looks awesome...

November 1969 was obviously a good month for Honda James, they built both our bikes that month, though I don’t know if in the same factory. Maybe someone here can tell us.
Notice the wall behind the CL450, the Victorians didn’t mess around with namby pamby cheap brick walls. I learned from a Fred Dibnah programme that the dimples in the middle of the huge stone blocks were for a kind of scissor clamp that they used to grip them when they were lifted into place. Now you know look out for them in any 19th Century architecture.
-
The South Downs look stunning James and I do so miss riding around that area. Oh, the bikes not bad either 😀😀😀

Fine really, even though they are a bit bigger than they should be. There is a 4.00x18 on the back and a 3.50x18 on the front. I have had no problems with them up to press, so will stick with them for now. Just that I am loath to change new tyres. Biggest problem was the front tyre catching the front mudguard but I adjusted that. :)
I am running them hard though.
-
Out in the same territory as Moorey was on Sunday, also back via Woodhead - I got another 50 miles on the CL450, up to 150 now. Outside Compo's Chippy (again!) in Holmfirth, met some classic Jap tiddlers. Interesting bikes, but a quiet bunch....
Today I stopped at a cash machine, only for a minute, so I wasn't too bothered about parking on a double yellow line. When I'd finished, I turned round and to my horror, there was the traffic warden walking around behind the bike to see the reg number. 'Don't see many of these around' he says, we then had a chat about the bike, and at no time were yellow lines mentioned! I wonder If I'd have got a bollocking or a ticket if I'd been on something less interesting.

Lovely bike James. What a shame about the barrels having to be changed out, maybe a porus casting if you couldn't detect the leak from elsewhere?

Yeah it was a real test of patience this one.
Heartbreaking to discover an issue like this on a freshly restored bike - especially given the fact you can’t perform any top end maintenance on the engine ‘in-frame’.
Still, it needed to be sorted and it was. And the feeling of a lovely smooth, well sorted, slick gear-changing cb750 is like nothing else in my book.
-
That would have been a right pisser on a build of that quality, glad all is good for you now. I have a little 350 that’s easier to work on if you fancy a straight swop. :D
-
Out and about with the first Biker nite meeting. Good weather so a great turn out.

earlier in the year I mentioned the Welsh National Rally, starting and finishing in Welshpool,on May 4th (Star Wars Day !!!)
got info this week, ready for route planning .this is called a scatter rally,no time set,or checked ,just for a day out,
I am going for a Gold award for classic bikes, this means visiting 3 manned checks, and answering 10 general questions at each plus
visiting 10 landmarks and answering the question about the place .
I am making it a lazy weekend, staying at a local B&B on friday and saturday nights ,
my route will be from Welshpool, head N/W to Llangynog then along the B4401 to Llandrillo,to towards Ruthin and Llandegla,
then to the 1st ckeck at A&D Motorcycles at Denbigh,
heading south to Nantglyn and west to Llangernyw, and north to Colwyn Bay KTM .
next head sout to Nant Gwynant and passing through Bedgellert to Clynnog Fawr south to Criccieth this is an area I know well
as we spend hols near here ,but more details of pub food and ice cream makers for another day !!!
final check just east of Port Madog ,and head south to Brithdir and Dinas Mawddwy ,then a 30 mile run back to Welshpool,
well thats the plan,
hopefully the clues will not to be to tricky to find ,
and hope the weather will be good,
any more doing the run ???

Got out on Millie for a bimble this afternoon, very nice it was too. I was out riding on my own, which I enjoy very much, Trig was too busy to join me ........shame ;D ;D ;D

Looks stunning John and a great day out by the sounds of it. I'm slacking....I only managed 100 miles today and 30 miles yesterday, you put us youngsters to shame with the miles you clock up, good on you :-*
-
Don't know were you get the time John - I managed 20 miles on CR to check running after taking the main jets down to 130 - after fitting in essential house maintenance, grand kids and Mrs Ward (who isn't into bikes. Maybe when I fully retire in 2 years!

Phil.that is the secret.when you retire make sure your time that used to be work is now enjoyment time.
And stuff like house maintenance is in the previously leisure time.
Remember. We have all worked hard to get to retirement. Don't waste it.Enjoy it !!!!

I was trying to just use the old back roads, that were once the main roads before the new fangled turnpikes came along. At one stage it was single track and lots of gravel, the sort of road I wouldn't be at all happy on the CB750, but made for the CL450 :)
-
Nice example of a K3 there Harold.
The CL looks good out in the wild Dave, that is a good match in mirrors for the tank isn't it. A nice little detail.
There's a whole genre of photography around that, like this example below

That BSA is the bike that always impresses me, I can remember lusting after one when they first came out but it was never meant to be, I see one locally that looks just like that one, the guy uses it as his day to day transport.

We had a ride to Bridlington yesterday to have a look at the Race the Waves weekend as a few mates run rods. A good day and getting bigger. The 350f did 63mpg and Lorraine's 400 superfour did 73mpg.

First proper ride of the year. Just local (Windsor, Maidenhead area)
Notes:
Almost impossible to get into neutral when hot.
Choke lever is dragged to "on" by riding denims (must have happened 4/5 times)
Lovely soft comfy seat
Soft comfy suspension

Anyone in the Pendine Sands area in a couple of weeks, it will be worth a look.

Interesting comment about the choke lever on the CB500/4, I could not ride mine in boots that are anything more than ankle length, or the choke was pushed on during gear changes. I sorted matters out by fitting a CB750/4 gear lever (same height though different angle and distance from the crank case) and am now able to ride in touring boots if I want to!

Although it's difficult, I'll have to check whether this is the boot or the denims. I ride with my toes on the footpeg and move to the insole for each gearchange. It must happen when I move my foot up and back after changing gear...
I can't see how a different gear lever will change this?
Steve
-
Strange. I have never had this. I always ride with my foot in step on the rest.i can change gear without moving it from there.
The only time I put the ball of my foot on the rest is if there is a chance of scraping it going around a corner.

Thanks for the info Moorey, i'll pop along on the K1 (Unless it's raining, after all it is Wales) only about 30 miles away.
Are you into Rods ?
-
Years ago I was into the scene so I still have a soft spot for them, but a few mates run them. The 437 in the foreground of the photo at Brid is a good mate. V8 Ford flathead that runs nice.

@ moorey and adespin thanks for the heads up I will be there again this year any excuse for a ride out and visit BABS the same time

The CB750/4 gear lever is a quite different shape and sits further out than the original. It's fixed it for me, although perhaps it wouldn't work for you? The only way to know is to try one.
I tried it because I have a CB750 parked next to the 500 in the bike garage and it seemed worth a look. When it all worked out, I ordered one from CMS for the 500. That was around three years ago and it's been on there ever since, the original sitting in my spares box in case it is wanted in future.
I noticed at the time that I ordered that CMS only offered the one type of gear lever for both bikes (the 750 style) although that was presumably due to availability, rather than anything else.

@ moorey and adespin thanks for the heads up I will be there again this year any excuse for a ride out and visit BABS the same time
Pendine is a great place to visit, my wife's best mate lives near there and we last went this spring. You can (sometimes) ride on the beach if you wash the salt off afterwards. However you won't see Babs I'm afraid, they were demolishing the museum - Wikipedia tells me they are going to build a new one, but not why and when.
(https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/68/Babs_in_Museum_of_Speed%2C_Pendine_%285747%29.jpg/220px-Babs_in_Museum_of_Speed%2C_Pendine_%285747%29.jpg)
In all the times I've been there I only saw Babs there once, as the museum was closed in the winter, and Babs often went off to shows and events in the summer. Ironically, the one time I did see it at Pendine, I saw it again two weeks later at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, going up the hill! The 27 litre aero engine was run on fast tickover up the course, it sounded like the apocalypse.

At Squires this aft. I was talking to the 650 Enfield rider and he had already had the rh side panel fall off when riding and knew of another 3 that had done the same. He had another seat made as the original was awful other than that he said he liked it. He had sold 2 Bullets to buy it so obviously liked Enfield's Personally I preferred the 1924 flat tank Enfield.

More than that, it's got pushbike type brake blocks operating on front rim as original kit it looks. you can just see them between the fork stanchions.

The local bike club organised a rideout to commemorate Malcolm Uphill's TT win 50 years ago. We started at the Wetherspoon pub (the Malcolm Uphill) and did a 120 mile blatt through some real claggy weather with a few stop offs. Despite the rain it was good to get out, riding with mates.

Had a lovely ride out today to the North Yorkshire Moors and Whitby. Found a stunning place called Levisham, in Rydale. Talk about up hill down dale, there was plenty of that and the scenery was stunning. Sheep all over the road and saw a steam train chuffing along. Took a slight wrong turn between Levisham village and Levisham Station, it looked like a small lane, then it turned into a farm track but we kept going until we were off roading. Good thing we were on the CD250's......You find the best places on a Honda 😁. Just over 250 miles today. Thanks to Ash and Cathy for the cuppa on the way up there.

Out and about at the Beach this afternoon. Anderby Creek. Went on the bikes and had no trouble parking (on the grass) unlike all the cars that were driving round in circles trying to find non existent parking spaces in the very small parking area. Unfortunately, loads of cars parked up the little road leading to the Creek and they all got parking tickets !!!. This place is in the middle of nowhere, very small and only one road in and out but, the Parking Ticket man found it and earned his wage today.
[attachimg=1]

Looks like a lovely spot Julie.
Just the mention of traffic warden though gives me flashbacks, once got a ticket on my bike in London for "parking too far from a controlled parking area" was about 20 years ago. Not bitter at all ;D may need therapy to let it go >:(

Just over 2000 miles Chris. So that's in just over a year but she was off the road for 6 months over the winter and I have the other bikes to ride as well, so not too bad really. I tend to ride her more when I'm out and about on my own, I like to keep all the fun I have on her to myself ;D ;D ;D

I filled up today and noticed I have done just over 1000mls now on the 350f and must have done similar on the 400sf. Its so much easier with the new hip. The 750f will be coming out soon. Still cant quite cock my leg over it yet. :D

Out and about on a pair of our CB750's tonight. Both UK K6's but....that is where the similarities end 😁😁😁 I just love riding both these bikes, I'm a lot more suited to a bigger engined, heavy bike and these old girls fit the bill a treat.

No Nigel, they don't still make them. It was a tyre Trig had in stock so it got used up on this bike.

I've always liked those, carried one of the first ones back from a motorcycle show for the K2 I had at the time, from Earls Court, I think. :)

Out and about at Boston Bike Night. 1000's of bikes a usual, I took me little 400/4 and Trig went on the 750/4 mongrel. I only took 1 photo tonight, it seems Honda have gone full circle back to the mid 70's. This was on the Honda dealers stand, its a new CB650F......just look at the exhaust system, does it look familiar? Not quite as sexy as the 70's version but, not far off 😀😀😀
[attachimg=3]

It does look familiar.
But. I personally don't like the styling of modern bikes.
Unless they are retro styles.
Light alloy.chrome pipes. And proper long exhausts.
Not pressed tin cans ready to be covered in mud
Sent from my SM-A750FN using Tapatalk
-
Agree John, modern bikes all look the same to me, just different colours and stickers. And, new bikes are soooooooo small, even a 1000 cc bike looks like its the sort of size that it should fold in two and fit in the boot of the car. 🤔
-
I looked at one of these bikes in my local Honda dealer a few months ago (no intention of buying one, just looking). The price for a set of replacement header pipes was £2,500, this excludes the silencer! The headlamp was over £400! These prices make our old bikes look cheap to restore!
-
I think Honda even pay a mention to how the CB650 swoopy exhaust reflects the original 400/4 in their latest sales literature.
Hard to improve on perfection though innit !
-
Ugly ugly ugly, i wouldn't look twice at it in a showroom, and how does a passenger get their feet on those pegs !!
-
The pipes look proper "swoopy" but the engine looks like some sort of central heating boiler mated to a car engine, and the rest looks like bits and pieces thrown together it just does not flow at all, don't likes it.
Cheers
Dennis

Did that new hip feel ok riding the 750 Chris?
-
Fine thanks Julie. Getting on is a bit of a stretch still but riding it is now totally pain free. Couldn't be happier with it. Anyone suffering with bad hips get them sorted its life changing. What seems strange is it still hurts getting on but not off you would think it would be the same. :)

Down in Sidmouth, Devon for a long weekend. Caught a glimpse of blue 400/4 on the seafront on Saturday late afternoon. About an hour later, saw another, red this time. Anyone on here?

Not me Harold... I'm in Saddleworth. Which kinda leads to me to a question.
I've seen a few of photos on here around the Holmfirth, Greenfield area. So Just wondering if any one wants to meet for a coffee anywhere in the area when they're next out and about on their bike??
Cheers

That's because it's different muscle groups working with the two different processes due to the position of the whole body.
-
I would have thought one was just the reverse of the other, the same action with the cocking over leg just the other way around. But what do I know about that game. Diddly squat. ;D

You know more than most Chris, it's your hip 😀😀😀 Next time you get on and off the bike, analyse your whole body posture, it's totally different for both processes. Most important thing is that you are comfy and pain free when riding. Even I'm beginning to have slight issues getting on and off of bikes, not as easy as it used to be.

I must confess to the 500 at Harpenden. That black bomber was nice too.
Some cracking cars there as well, some pretty rare.

Great pics, thanks all for sharing

No bikes in the pic as we didn't want to ride them across the sand....well, we did want to but probably a law against it 🙄🙄🙄 Hottest day of the year, peak holiday season, Lincolnshire style. Most beaches are virtually empty (Mablethorpe, Skeggy and Cleethorpes are the places to go if you can't live without all the usual seaside trappings and those places I'm sure would have been heaving). But, we like the quiet life and I have done a lot of swimming in the sea this week......bloody lovely.

Those Suzuki are pretty rare bike and don't see many of them out.
One of the first bikes I rode, my elder sister's boyfriend let me ride his GT250 prior to buying a red 550 to replace it. I was fifteen at the time and it felt like the fastest thing in the world as my own transport was a Holdsworth bicycle ;D
-
A Holdsworth Nigel, you bought from a local Putney based bike builder then? I used to ride past the shop on my 10 speed Carlton to have a look on my way to visit my aunt. Lovely handmade frames in orange and blue 👍.

I'd inherited it from my uncle so unsure of its original supply. Campgnolo gearsets and lovely large flange aluminium hubs with alloy rims, unfortunately sold when I got a moped.
Saw one in those colours recently for sale and nearly bought it, very good looking bike.

Your CB looks lovely John. Absolutely hissing down with rain here. Such a shame as the Lincolnshire Aviation Centre Bike Night was on tonight after being cancelled in June due to appallingly weather. 🙄🙄🙄 Good thing I got out this morning for a ride.
-
Nice to see an Ariel Leader being used, i had one in the 80's that was originally owned by the chief factory road tester at Ariel, underpowered but wonderfull road holding. Such a shame that they didn't develop it any further, although they did apparently have a prototype four cylinder version on the cards, but didn't get past the prototype stage.
[attachimg=1]
-
My first Airfix kit when I was a kid was the Golden Arrow!
The 4 cylinder Leader is another British 'what if'. The British motorcycle industry was littered with them and includes the Trident 4, the 500 Wolf, Fury/Bandit, all the BSA\Triumph modular bikes, the BSA Speedway engine etc. Such a shame short sighted management killed the industry with stupid ideas such as the BSA Dandy, Beagle & the Ariel 3 wheeler!
A really good book to read is 'Whatever happened to the British motorcycle industry' by Bert Hopwood, a real eye opener and first hand account to what really happened as a result of under investment.

Well finally got to test out the new knee, every time I have planned to go out it has chucked it down, today was dry but cloudy and cool so off I went, and the knee worked fine, I had to lift my foot up a bit to operate the back brake but I can cope with that. I didn't wear my leather jeans so it was a bit cool on the old legs so I only got about 20 miles in.
As a bonus the mirrors that Julie recommended in another thread worked great, I could actually see what was going on behind me, all in all a good day.
Cheers

Well done Dennis, you have done really well and I'm pleased the mirrors are good for you. I have to lift my feet to both change gear and use the back brake....its a problem when you only have size 4½ feet......they just aren't long enough to reach anything 😀😀😀😀

Now that is one really neat F2.

-
You're right OJ, the paint on the fins did look a bit chipped, I noticed when I was looking at the bike, they had been touched up in places as well.. However the bike has been owned by the same person for something approaching 40 years and has never been fully restored, just a bit of paint here and a bit of chrome there over the years, but its a rider not a 15k show pony and really stood out in the sunshine... a very nice almost original example and a credit to the owner.
-
Looking again at the F2 the carrier rack looks handy, I wonder if it's a period item ?
Cheers

Although I ride a bike most days, these past few days with it being so hot has not been much fun. Temperature a lot lower today and just perfect for racing round the Wolds. Also, being cooler, Trig actually put jeans on today instead if his usual T shirt, shorts and crocks. It annoys him utmostly that other bikers don't nod at him when he's riding half clad but they do when he's wearing jeans. Sods law, we didn't see another bike on the road today, so no one saw him fully dressed for the first time in weeks 😀😀😀

Nope...Trig has those cheap ones on all his 750's and they don't squeak. I have those expensive sintered ones back in my 400 and she is still squealing at slow speed, even though that front brake system has been fully overhauled and refurbed at least 10 times now...including having the disc slimmed. It was perfect for about 100 miles and then she started again. Good thing i don't use the brakes much 😲😲😲 Your bike looks great.

-
Tyres are always going to divide people. I hate Bridgestone on bikes and cars I'v just never felt confident with them. I have Conti's on my 550 and 750 rain or shine they have always been great. They also look right modern rubber just looks odd on an old bike.
-
Forgot to add your bike looks great Paul I must find the time to get mine out.
DSS pads take an age to bed in but once there bedded in they stop kind off.

Out and about in the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus. Up to about 3400 ft....only another 3000 odd Ft to go and will be at the top of Mt Olympus. The mountain passes are fantastic, twistes all the way but you have to keep avoiding the rock falls and the dried up pine needles which are so slippery. Max speed about 15-20 mph to be on the safe side. 2 up on a Kymco 125, fantastic little bike for these roads. I'm riding pillion and just watching the scenery....which is stunning.

Made it up to the top of Mt Olympus yesterday, 6400 ft. Took 2½ hours to ride up and the same to ride down. The little Kymco 125 did the job fine, just. As usual with biking, it was the journey and not the destination that it was all about. Stunning scenery and a real adventure. Beautiful weather until we left the top of the mountain and then the temperature dropped by about 15° and it started rain, really, really hard. We couldn't ride for quite a while as rock falls happening everywhere and the road was like a very fast flowing river. Tried to shelter under some trees but still ended up saturated and as we were only in shorts and t shirts, it got bloody cold. Never mind...the rain eventually eased and by the time we got down to about 3000ft, the sun came out, the temperature shot back up and we were fully dried out by the time we got back to the apartment. A real adventure and just great fun.

Yes.
I must admit to not visiting since I donated the engine "to a good home"
I had hoped that they would have displayed the history of the engine (who built it and why it was thrown out by the Honda dealer during a refurb)
Never mind - at least it's not stashed away in someone's barn any more...

Interesting to read where the cutaway motor came from. Some building work being carried out at museum and exhibits scattered randomly around so maybe it lives in a better spot normally?
-
Out and about on the Wolds....beautiful but a bit blowy

Looks a bit better than pissing it down Wales. :(

There was a very light shower for 5 mins but, we were in the pub having lunch at the time, so we missed it totally 😀😀😀

Great pictures and bike :D

Still getting out and about regularly but just using the 250's now. I don't bother posting in out and about every time me/ him / both of us get out or some may get jealous 😀😀😀. Done ok this year really considering the weather hasn't been the greatest, done about 4k each on assorted bikes this year, so not too bad.
Lovely out this morning, albeit a bit chilly.

I went for a run today after a 3 week break.
It was sunny. Dry and warm.
Nice 14c.
Very enjoyable.

Last Oct SUN we had (again!) nice weather, so made my season longer :)
By chance one enthusiast amateur photographer was shooting bikes so I get some photos

Who's had the gritters out yet. They gritted heavily here the start of last week.

Definitely gritting up here. Snow on the A93 at Glenshee last week. 😯
-
Gritting?? Why they do it? Snow/ice in UK? :o
-
Yes, when there is a risk of snow or ice on the roads. It is a mix of salt and grit they spread on the roads. Often in my opinion when there is no need for it, especially at the start of winter when councils have huge stockpiles of the stuff and as we know salt does vehicles no favours.
-
Wau. Quite surprise for me, I expect snow and ice first here (mountain areas of central Europe) and only in rare cases in UK (due to strong influcence of ocean).
In Slovakia definitely, all works in reactive mode only, no preventive gritting. Only in mountain areas, short before snowfall sometimes they start...
And yes, salt is very bad for cars/bikes...

Great pictures Erny - bike looks great in 'action'

Thanks!
One thing is annoying on CB750K, at least mine - even w/o extreme angle while cornering, I'm scratching pegs and on the left side kick stand.... Only way is to appy "knee style" to compensate it.. On this pic it is quite visible how close it is.. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191105/d03f70ae646234afc6fc44cc5708937d.jpg)

Went on what was probably the last rideout of the year. There was 10 of us from the local club, riding on anything between a Honda 125 cc Grom and some big Kawasaki, the newest was a 69 plate, oldest was a 1942 ex WD BSA.
We clocked up 110 miles with a stop off for a big breakfast and coffee (as you do).
Luckily the weather was ok so I rode the 400four instead of the VT.
-
Good for you.
I am hoping to get out Monday.
It should be dryer then.
I HATE having to wash the bikes after

Mike - wau!, 110 miles, great! I won't do here, if I ignore salty wet roads, there is still strong wind, temp around +2 degree Celsius and somr time to time snowing a bit. Too much for me.

Where was the bike stop mike, looks like a bikers caf' could it be mid Wales ?
-
Not quite 110 miles - done about 110 miles less the 100! Went out on CR to move the petrol through the carbs - try to get out on one of the bikes every week but the roads are so dirty at the moment

You have done 10 miles more than me then Phil 😭😭😭 What with all the rain and the farmers getting the crops out of the fields 24/7, the roads are covered with about 6" of mud at all times.... not really safe in a car, let alone on a bike. Farmers need to do their work though so, no complaints from me.

It was the Mynedd Ddu tea rooms in Cwmdu. A few miles north of Crickhowell.
-
I've done for this year I gave up last Thursday. ;D
-
It is quite pleasant today. Almost completely dry. So being a glutton. I took all 3 of the bikes out.
About 10-12 miles covered on each.
Very invigorating.
Hopefully a longer run tomorrow

A nice day here also, I ran the CB750 for about 35 miles and the BMW around the same distance. The sun was out!

Managed to do a few miles on the 400/4 today nice and bright but cold. Roads still damp in the shade (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191230/5d77075baff8512f61ee3e4c84b03a98.jpg)
