Our first ride out of the year on the 250 SOHC Twins 😊 The roads are dry, the mud on the roads was dry, so good road conditions. Plenty of layers of clothing needed. Only just over 40 miles and the last 10 miles on my bike was done on 1 cylinder as a plug or lead or something gave up. Never mind, still does 45 mph even on one cylinder and got home no problem.

Haven't been out on the 400 yet, still needs cleaning from last week.
I fitted some LED spotlights to the VT. Part of my journey home is through a lane that is Unsuitable for Motor Vehicles mainly due to the potholes and it's not lit. I prefer the lane route to avoid traffic and 2 sets of traffic lights.
The main beam isn't that brilliant (pun intended) and the new spots make hell of a difference.

One more CD and you'll have a display team!

Those old 250u's are improving with age. Funny I don't remember the handle bars being so high.
-
Not very often I post on out and about but grabbed a bit of sunny and dry road weather today to get out and do about 30 miles (same on ZZR earlier this week)
Pic is on my way out looking over home town and onto Winter hill. Dry roads - great! Rain tomorrow I think

Your K2 looks lovely Phil. That's the colour I'm having my K2😍😍😍
Do you have your side panel badges flying backwards for a reason 🤔🤔🤔
-
1 knew someone would find something wrong! Its the badges that came with the my original basket case K2 Julie - I think I have 2 x the same badges so wrong on one side. Forks are wrong too (my 2012 ignorance when I bought bike- swapped proper K2 fork bottoms with Mick thinking 75 model should have k5 fork bottoms - know now that as its a UK K2, should have earlier bottoms on) and later cyl head on (for same reason - have earlier K2 head that I may put back on at some time)
When I retire and have more time, I will get round to changing it - maybe!

I wouldn't worry about any of its individualities Phil, it looks lovely. Having seen a pic of your K2 in the past its the reason I'm going for Planet Blue on my UK K2 (That and Trig has a Candy Custom Gold one and I don't want to have the same as him 😊😊😊).

The cylinder head is down to what year your UK K2 is ?
-
And I'm changing my paint set to Candy Ruby Red this spring (almost certain I will anyway!) - as you say, it's all about what an individual wants. My bike is also full of stainless 13mm head 8 mm bolts as I'm pragmatic about my builds - not for the purists!

Maybe we should do a swap on paint sets Phil. Mine is currently red but needs a repaint and thats why I'm going to Planet Blue.
-
Going to keep the blue set Julie as it's the original colour (and my red set has Tap on left tank)

Hi Phil, I have a 76 UK K6 which is a similar colour to yours, what is the name of your colour? Im based in Southport near you.
Kev.

Hi Kev, it's called 'Planet Blue' - not sure if K6 was Planet Blue but the experts will be along to confirm or correct me!

This is our UK K6, original paint, Candy Sapphire Blue.
The USA K6 is Flake Sapphire Blue.

Busy sunny pic - I've been several times to my usual local bikes cafes during the week (taken by a mate in a car) and there were lots of bikes and people there, probably the privilege of age and retirement; the latter may be forced on me before I would like, but I could live with it. :)
-
got all 3 bikes out in the last few days ,
the little Yam and CB200 found the wind a little to much, would only pull about in 4th into the breeze, but both suffered in the gusts ,
but went very well downwind !!!
the 500 went out, that ignores the wind, but does strengthen your arms and shoulders !!!.
went for the 50 mile run for a burger lunch,Ocean Cafe,Abergavenny
WoW ,it felt good !!!
hopefully the roads will dry,and the temperature will rise ,Happy days to come .
-
We'll have to meet up in Abergavenny John. Dunno where the Ocean Café is though.
-
I've just been out on the VT. Replaced the front brake pads so I rode about 10 miles just to bed them in (my excuse). Couldn't take the 400 because several important bolts are being re zinked and the exhaust clamps are being rechromed.

At last.... We managed to get out and about for a nice 75 mile ride this morning on the SOHC Twin twins

. Roads still muddy around here but at least its dry mud at the moment. Windy and a bit chilly up on top of the Wolds but very pleasant nonetheless. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200311/6942488ac840dce47a647d66d471affa.jpg)

Make the most of it we could end up in lock down soon. The roads around here are noticeably quieter.

The roads around the Lincolnshire Wolds are always quiet Chris. Today, I think we saw 8 cars, 15 tractors and a bloke hearding sheep along the road, that's about normal for around here really. Surely, even if we get to lock down stage, bike riding won't be included I hope 🤔🤔🤔🤔
-
I was in hospital yesterday seeing about a new hip and i ended up differing it for at least 6mnths. Seems to me like the are wanting to clear the wards in readiness. Must say it was the cleanest i have ever seen it. Back in tomorrow for CLL check and that should be me done there for 6mnths. God willing. ;)
-
Yes Chris, let's hope we all have a healthy summer.

I changed the rear shocks on the CL450, from the very original, but completely untroubled by damping, DeCarbon 1969 set to a new pair from TEC. As I explained to the wife, they were'nt going to test ride themselves, so had to leave her mowing the lawn single handed - she's bust her wrist so has an arm in plaster. She can't go on the back as her leather won't go over the cast, but she doesn't fancy it much anyway on the CL as there's no backrest or grab rail. She's been spoiled by the Sportster with it's backrest, you couldn't fall off even if you were unconscious (it's been tested).
So off up the valleys on the back roads to Standedge, where I stopped to admire the view. Although sunny the wind was freezing. The house in the background, behind the twistgrip, I'm told, was the 'local shop' in The League of Gentlemen.

Looking down the valley, towards Diggle.
When I got home, both lawns were mowed, no viruses caught, and the new shocks had been a worthwhile improvement so a result all round! :)
On seeing these pictures, I just cleaned the lens on my phone, the dust from living in my pocket adds to the 'soft focus' effect like people use on dating photos.
-
That's Social Isolation at its best Dave. I'm doing plenty of that, dug the old flask out and we can have a great time out without catching anything untoward. Lovely photos, looks stunning up there.
-
Very nice.
I am planning a ride to north Wales tomorrow.
I can fill up using pay at pump.
With a helmet on .and stay 6ft away from others.
Pictures to follow

Evidently petrol pumps are a good source for catching the virus. Either wear gloves or sanitise after filling.
That apparently is an urban myth.
But It is worth being careful

Leave your gloves on to fill up.

And dont take them off using the teeth method

Be careful when buying a parking ticket for the car. Most of our machines around here are the type where you use a keypad to enter your reg number. I saw 17 people today get a ticket and not one wiped the keypad with an Anti Bacterial wipe. I didn't even bother getting a ticket and took a chance that I wouldn't get caught. I'd rather get a fine and argue the reason for not getting one at a later date than touch that keypad.

This is an easy one to forget the Hospital last night had a touch screen thing to pay for parking it looked like someone had coughed there guts up on it. I have become so paranoid I have hands of a 100 year old now.
-
At least the queue at tesco was only 10 people at 6am

But needs must.
We need to stay safe.

I've done the decorating, raked and cut the lawn, tidied the borders transplanted some plants, painted the fences, so today I got the F1 out from it's slumbers and gave it a check up and it's yearly clean up. Of course I had to take a short ride on it which went great, but wonder of wonders the new knee has improved to the point that I can now operate the back brake properly, I was made up and it was nice to give the bike it's test run.
Cheers

I was totally gutted today, I needed to do a 'big shop' so had to take the car 😭😭😭I forgot the milk on purpose so I can go out on the bike tomorrow to get some 😊😊😊😊
-
I’m commuting to work on mine so at least I’m able to be giving the 3 roadworthy bikes a run out at least once a week each.
It’s the only benefit of being a key worker at the moment.
-
I have managed to get materials for the first time in 4 weeks so I'm back to work tomorrow.
After being ill for the first 2 weeks the remaining 2 passed far to fast.
I still can't use work as an excuse to use the bikes as I need to take the truck and scaffolding :'(
-
In the last week.
I have been out on my 750k1,T500,Tdr250,Cb175,Cd175a
And Ke100. All been through the Trough of Bowland.
Wear work clothes & rucksack. Try to look like you're not enjoying yourself. Keep away from the obvious places.
And nobody will bother you.
Doing what a am told. Never has been my strong suit.
-
There are loads of lanes near me that all the local bikers use so panda cars aplenty.
Not a bad thing though as last week there were loads of cars and bikes out giving it the beans
-
Well done Dennis, I bet that felt great.
It certainly did, hope to get some more riding time in when permitted, when I was out I automatically headed for the A550 Welsh road, but realised that was not a good idea and turned around.
Cheers
Dennis

Been out today on the 750F2 only did about 20 miles but it was great. Covidiot. Had to laugh, was waiting at traffic lights and a bike cop went through. He slowed right down and I thought he was going to pull me. But he just had a good look and gave me the thumbs up. Probably another classic biker in his off duty world.
-
The only excuse I have to use any of my bikes is the 1.5 mile trip to see my 94 year old mum.... so I make the most of it. And of course i have to clean and polish in between trips. Currently I’m swapping between the CB and the RD 😎

Your bikes look really nice Rob, the Honda very shiny, you must spend all your time polishing. I notice double padlocks on your garage doors, you can never be over cautious.
Adrian.

Thanks Adrian. The photo’s always hide the minor issues like scratches in the paint or pitting on the CB’s original chrome..but they are nice tidy “ridersâ€.. not show winners. Yes triple padlocks actually..but it is impossible to beat the determined thief.

Lovely John , great to see you and your lovely bike back out and about. I did a quick 45 mile sprint around part of what is known locally as the Lincolnshire TT circuit, on my 400/4. Roads still pretty empty but that's normal for here. Blimey, it felt good to have a fast blast......

I might take the wife out on the Sportster tomorrow - sadly she's not a fan of pillion on the CL, she doesn't like the small seat and the lack of a grabrail. Her ankle got twisted gardening (!) so no more long walks for now - going lame out on the moors is not an option. What I'll miss about a ride out is somewhere to go to - usually there is food, an attraction or a drink at the other end, so I guess it will have to be a circular tour instead.

My dad and I have been commuting on the 750 and 550 all week its been great to get out on the bikes again.
There have been a few snags though and both are now of the road for awile.
The 550 had a missfire on 2 it turned out to be a loose HT lead to plug cap. Sorted that and then 2 days later it stopped sparking on 2+3. Turns out the coils duff its also still running very rich as the plugs are black.
The 750 has had a stutter at about half throttle for awile. The carbs are clean and the tap is now clear running so the stutter has gone.
When cleaning the tap I noticed the paint on the tank has bubbled around the head stock and a clip nut has fallen out from behind the Honda emblem. ::) The bike still suffers from clutch slip when you give it the beans and no amount of adjustment seens to sort it.So I will be pulling that out at some point too.
The little ER6 has sprung a leak so thats out too.
But even with all the issues its been good to get out.
Next week we are going Aprilia and Guzzi so quite likely more issues to come. ;D

Just back from a lovely day out.... We have been to Flamborough Head up in Yorkshire. John (Cooleronthecoast) and his wife Yvonne live very close by so we stopped off to meet them and they made us very welcome with lovely cups off coffee.
I was pillion on the 750 K6 today

as most of you will know, that's my least favourite position on a bike but it was very comfy and I quite enjoyed taking in the scenery without having to concentrate on the road

We had the sunshine yesterday Steve, its the sea breeze that keeps the temperature down here. We live on the Flamborough peninsula so we have sea on more or less 3 sides, its like living on a small island at times. The sea keeps the coastline cooler in the summer months, but the bonus is it also keeps us warmer than a few miles inland during the winter months. Its rare to get frost here. The thing to do when its cooler-on-the-coast is to jump on your bike and head inland! :D

It has been hot and sunny in Berkshire. I have been digging a large hole in the garden for the wife’s water feature.
Photos when it’s done.

It was only slightly cloudy up there Steve but the temperature was definitely a few degrees lower.

My perfect day. Just me, a bike, glorious sunshine, perfect temperature, a bottle of Orange Fanta and fantastically quiet Lincolnshire roads to ride on.

Three outings in three days ::).
I have too many bikes to keep them all happy.
400/4 out soon as this is now back to original every nut and bolt ;D

Got out finally yesterday as the weather was due to change today, quick trip up the Wirral but hit the car queues to the seaside areas so turned back inland, no ice cream this time. As usual the bike ran better than me.
Cheers

For the first time in months, I went on a rideout of sorts. There was a full blown bikers funeral (no one I know) , complete with sidecar hearse. There must have been over a 1000 riders in attendance. It's a shame that it takes a funeral to give us an excuse to get out on the bikes. We're thinking that with a full tank of juice, a flask of coffee and a pasty, we can have an enjoyable 60 miles, be socially distant, and have some sense of normality.
-
The weather has been unexpectedly good here this morning so it would've been rude not to get out on the 550 for a bimble around the parish.

Glorious day here in Lincolnshire, so a nice ride out. I took Millie the Mongrel and Graham was on the K6. Stopped at Southrey on the River Witham. Disused railway line now and a footpath from Woodhall Spa to Lincoln. The platform is stiil there with the original bricks.

Enjoyed my trip to visit my Dad in Govilon, by Abergavenny, on the 400. On the way, went via Pontypool, Varteg, Blaenavon and over the Blorenge into Govilon.
Dry and sunny on the way home. I needed that.

Bike looks great in that colour - mine is planned to be done in black as per my original 500 but waiver towards gold whenever I see one
-
I must admit to always liking the brown.
I was never that taken by the black but now I've
Got one in black they do look very smart in that Contrasting black / silver ..
This If I remember correctly is the lighter gold and its lost its candy effect some what but does look good showing its age.....in my opinion anyway .
Its all abit grubby really

We had a ride up to Knaresbourgh today to check out the market for future work.

Out and about in the Peak District. Although the Classic Bike show at Crich was cancelled, we have still come away for a few days as planned. Weather was bloody awful this morning, a ride to Buxton was very, very wet. The sun came out late this afternoon, so off we went up hill and down dale. Trig is on the 750 and to be honest, he says it's a bit of a handful around the small tracks / lanes up in the Dales but my 550 Millie, is not too bad. Ideally we would be better off on the CD250u's on some of these routes. Stunning scenery up here.
Great to catch up with Tim (Rozerbikes Tim) for a cuppa....Its always great to see you Tim.

After MOTing, insuring and taxing my GPZ500S, which hasn't run for about 7 years, I decided it needed a good run.
Me and 15 other riders went on a 220 mile trip to Aberystwyth. It ran OK, except the balance pipe between the 2 exhaust pipes was blowing and got progressively louder as the day went on. I'll fix it tomorrow with some stainless sheet and some jub clips.

Lincolnshire is back to normal as far as biking is concerned. No joke, I reckon there were 10 bikes to every 1 car on the roads today. Out on our pair of Mongrels, Millie and Ruf, racing each other over the Wolds like a pair of 21 year old nutters, brilliant fun as both these bikes handle exceptionally well. Brekkie up near Brigg and quick pit stop at Willingham Woods and then another race all the way home. I always let Trig win by the way, I couldn't handle the fall out of me winning 😁😁😁

Very nice, i like the “brat style†especially the 750 with the black barrels... And it looks to have a nice looking set of cross over style marshall exhaust headers 8) Strange how I was saying on another thread recently that they seem rare and then another set shows up... I’d love to do a brat style honda like yours (or the ones on classic octane YouTube channel) but i simply cannot fit a sixth bike in my garage :-\

We've been out and about quite a bit over the past few days. Friday, the CD250u's had a day out at the seaside, Saturday, the 750/4 and 550/4 Mongrels had a 250 mile round trip to Milton Keynes, yesterday I got out on both the 250 and Grahams 750 Mongrel for a couple of short rides and today the K6 and the 400/4 went to the beach for brekky.
Grahams ride today was a bit lively at one stage as a wasp managed to get down the neck of his jacket and stung him on the back twice 😳😳😳😳. Graham has done about 1200 miles on the K6 since March, which isn't bad considering he's been very busy at home doing some serious DIY.

After much fettling to get back to full roadworthy condition I had my first shake down run out (only 20 miles) after I finally got my DVLA documents.
Thanks to James for selling this to me.
Runs fine just had to rock it a bit to free off the clutch and there’s a bit of exhaust smoke but not bad for an 49year old engine that doesn’t look like it has ever had any of the engine covers removed.
Happy days

Had a run over to the inlaws caravan on Spurn Head yesterday. I intended to video the run back but forgot to turn my camera on when I set off, i realised this and pulled over in Skeffling to turn it on... 1. Graham won't eat fish

Me too, that's most impressive though the wife would not like it and the tail would end up in the garden behind us.

Just outside Newquay, Cornwall? That belonged to my friend Barry Wallond, unfortunately he died not long ago.
It's a Spitfire replica used in the movie Dark Blue World. He had another one that he used to take to shows or rent out for events.
Barry was a talented artist and quite a character!

I've always meant to stop and photograph my bike beside this in Moffat. It's owned by the local retired doctor who has some very nice classic cars in his garage too.

Nice ride out today to Spurn Point on the North side end of the Humber, with a stop off for a nice Roast dinner for lunch. Its about a 180 mile round trip from home.
You can just see Spurn Point in the background.

Nice ride out today. I haven't done many miles this year so it was back to my favourite run along the River Nith to Glencaple. Criffel in the background

Had a lovely ride out yesterday to Ely. Beautiful weather, quite warm in the sun but that autumnal nip was in the air later in the day.

On the road just outside Llangollen, dropped down to Bala then back along the A494 through Ruthin and Mold, lovely weather and a great ride -

There's a cracking, unspoilt motor/motorbike museum in Llangollen, about a mile out of town, by the canal. Not sure if open at the mo.
We went there last year on our 400fours, left our helmets and jackets there while we went on a canal trip.
-
I went there a few years ago, amazing place there was a section that was full of NOS parts and set up like a 1960's dealership, I could have spent my life there just looking through the shelves

Riding around Lincolnshire this morning getting prices for a new Haldex pump on my Freelander 2. The new exhaust system I bought recently for my CB750/4 K2 was cheap in comparison to this piddly little pump (£1900 supplied and fitted 😱😱😱😱). Anyway, Hettie, me little 400/4 turned 50,000 miles en route. As Graham reminded me, it's actually only the numbers on the speedo that have done 50k. Some restoration work had been done by a previous owner years ago and I have had the clocks rebuilt by Peter, we overhauled the front forks and then there was that major engine overhaul + lots of other little bits done to keep her in fine fettle. She is still an absolute pleasure to ride.

Seeing that you know so much about Haldex Ash, what you doing Saturday, I've got a heavy duty trolly Jack 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

There's no need to be confused Ash, what I'm saying is if I lift the car up on the jack you can remove and overhaul my Haldex pump as you understand them and I don't 😁😁😁.
To be fair, it's past an overhaul, its toast, so I need a new one. I'm just pissed off at the thought of paying nearly 2k, of which only £107 is labour, to have a new one supplied and fitted 😭😭😭😭😭

The Haldex Unit is like a sort of clutch that distributes drive to each wheel automatically to maintain traction. On my Freelander it controls the drive ratio to all 4 wheels. There is a pump in it, pumping oil and that's all I know really John. On mine, not only has the internal pump packed up but it's also sort of eaten itself, so I can only drive in 2 wheel drive now (not a problem) but the drive ratio is all cocked up, and scrubbing out tires, so I need a complete unit. I'm still driving the car 🤣🤣🤣🤣
-
Wow.thats nasty.
But an oil pump!
It should last forever.
I assume it is sealed for life.and no oil changes needed.
Bit like auto boxes.
I was told change auto box oil every 40k miles.
It does deteriorate.
Best wishes

According to Land Rover its a sealed, non serviceable item and therefore there is no mention in the service schedule of cleaning the filter out and changing the oil every 2-3 years. But, Audi, Skoda, Volvo etc use the same unit and the dealers service them and repair them ( there's an overhaul kit you can get but that's still about £600 parts and labour). I could get the local independent Land Rover specialist to do the overhaul on the pump and filter but there's a very high chance I could drive up the road and the same problem occurs as the actual metal internals of my unit are knackered, so a false economy really. I suppose its the same as fitting a bike oil pump with new seals and O rings, if the working parts inside are shot, it's not going to solve the problem. Its a pain in the arse TBH.
-
It's one of those items that they say are "filled for life" when the life of it is when it breaks ! :) as long as it's past warranty they don't really care.
Usually when a transmission locks like that (scrubbing tires etc) advice is to remove the rear propshaft and run it just driving the front wheels, else it'll start taking the CV joints at the wheels out too from torque windup.
Unless you drive round an equal number of left and right hand corners ;D
-
Try bellengineering.co.uk they do new pumps, I have never used them but they are freelander specialists, I have a Freelander 2 myself, so I would be interested to see how you get on.

Talking of sealed for life........Did you hear about the guy who bought a very expensive new watch with a lifetime guarantee on the main spring. Five years later when he was wearing it the main spring broke with such force it slashed his wrist and he died.
-
That's probably covered under warranty.

I managed to get out for an hour today on my 750 , cheers Mick ;)

Took advantage of the fine weather today.
Each of the bikes on an identical run.
South of Hereford towards Monmouth.
Photos taken just south of St Weonards on the A466.
Perfect bike road all the way to Chepstow.

Hi John,
I have a set of four new generator brushes for a Yamaha YCS1 that i no longer have, they should fit your RD200 as they are almost the same motor.
PM me your address and i will send them to you, better you have them than leaving them in my will ;D
-
Thanks. But mine is the 125.
Different electrics.
I could advertise them on the AircooledRD forum. Or you could

Managed a couple of hours out this morning, combined with a trip to the Post Office and Hermes Drop Off Shop to get all my weekend ebay sales posted. Stopped off for breakfast in a local café. The back lanes on the Wolds are now getting very muddy what with farmers doing their work, so took the little go anywhere CD250u's.

Went out for a ride this morning, via Tesco, blimey, it was chilly at times even with all the winter gear on and a bit of winter sun but still very nice to be out.
Stopped off for a cuppa and saw the perfect side stand on an old Royal Enfield, does the job perfectly 😁😁😁

Could not resist today too, sunny day.
Started quite late (before 3PM), rode ~50 miles. but it was soooo cold 🥶🥶🥶
Usually place on 2nd photo is full of bikers, today I was alone. Temperature there bit above 0 celsius degree :(
Finally beautiful sunset 8)

Gorgeous pictures Erny thank you

Stunning photos Erny.

I’m a tad envious, this time of year in Orkney it’s just too cold. (for me anyway) I could run the Pan but if we do get dry weather it’s usually caused by a northerly air flow, also local authority are already spreading salt on roads. So bikes tucked up until probably March 21. Yes Erne top picture wouldn’t look out of place in a sales brochure, just 40odd years too late. 😂😂

no, I'm not photographer ;)
I just enjoy riding on old great bikes and sky yesterday was so beaufiful, I had to take some pics. And especially nice sunsets are like magnet for me 8)
