				Hey all

I am getting conflicting reports on engine paint, and wether or not to prime before painting or not. I have always been taught to prime first for the best result. Saw several threads on here that talks about a self-etch primer before the paint.

Can somebody shed some light on this for me?

I use Simoniz engine paint. No primer required

-
Same here - done my SOHC's in Simoniz and confirm no primer required as per instructions

-
				Simoniz for us, no primer.

-
Me too, no primer. But must bake to cure.

-
I use Duplicolor engine primer now. The Duplicolor engine paint comes out better with it.

Is that for the Black or the Grey as Well? What color and primer have you used if I may ask?

The aluminium colour is the Duplicolor engine primer and paint. The black is Seymour MRO primer and paint in rattle cans. It's supposed to be gas and chemical resistant. If I spill gas on it I have to rewax it but no damage.

Ah, I meant the actual brand VHT: https://www.vhtpaint.com

I've heard it's the same as Duplicolor, but can't confirm it. Would love to go Simoniz, but haven't found a EU dealership where I don't have to pay more for shipping than the actual paint, so just checking out if others had any good ideas :)

Nice, you use the heat resistant one? They call it just grey, right? You wouldn't happen to have a pictures of your engine painted in it, would you?

This is from my CB750KZ before putting the engine back in.

Can you tell me exactly which one you used? MoTip is readily available for me, but it comes in both grey, aluminum and silver and I’m not sure which one to use. Yours look nice!

Wonder why Honda did that with the front bolts on the KZ engine, by leaving the top of the bolt hole exposed it invites water to enter and rust the screw into the casing, so it either snaps when trying to get it out or rounds off or strips the thread out. I'd fill that up with some grease if I was you, poor design.

				Its the aluminium one.

Follow up question: How many cans of paint to paint entire engine?

I think I used two - it allows for some waste when blowing out the paint with the can upside down - plus some left overs for touching in if needed..

				Great, thanks! :)
