Title: Crankcase bolts, replace or get plated.
Post by: billdn on April 06, 2022, 11:46:02 AM
Having had cases blasted, seems a shame to reuse old bolts. DS is quite expensive and some of the 8mm UBS bolts discontinued 😏
Are there alternative suppliers?
Is stainless steel better or worse?
Getting the old ones redone probably cost as much as new bolts.
It's not a show pony but seems a shame to spoil a ship for a halfpenny of tar , as they say.

I bought a complete engine bolt kit from CMSK, kits are stainless steel and can be purchased in different drive fittings ie Alan, Phillips. The bolts come in a standard satin stainless steel finish but can easily be polished up shiny on a polishing wheel. The kit also comes with a complete diagram of bolt locations on the engine

I wpould replate. Make sure you de-grease them and remove any burrs from the bolts and screws prior to sending them for plating because most platers will just plate what you have given them.
