Title: New SOHC addition
Post by: Oddjob on September 15, 2022, 05:45:18 PM
I didn't ever think I'd buy a cruiser but there's just something about this bike that appeals to me. Spotted it on Dave Silver used bikes.

It was a runner in the states and it looks like it's been very well cared for. 59000 miles.

Taking delivery in a few weeks.

Wow, that's a change of direction.
Do we call it a twin single or double single. (OHC)?

I was very tempted by a Honda 1300 X4 at Stafford Show last year aside from an oil drip it looked a lot of bike for £3k.
Then I realised I parted with my XJ900 because it was too heavy!

Looks very tidy!

Phil

It's reputably a single overhead cam for both cylinders, along with hydraulic tappets, self adjusting camchain, shaft drive and CDI. Just change the oil and filters and it's good to go.

59K milage and tax free in 4 years. If I don't like it I'll sell it on, cost me £1850, which could be a bargain but we'll need to see it run first. If it runs ok I'm probably not going to do anything to it except ride it, if my lad passes his test I'll give it to him as a present.

Not sure I can imagine Ken with the necessary WWII German Soldier type crash hat with appropriate side transfers.

Think "Easy Rider" film 1969 you can't beat the look of a Chopper - it's a Macho thing.

It was primarily bought for my son. He's a sort of pretend Hells Angel, member of a pub bike club, has a nickname "Joker" badge on the front of a denim cutdown etc. However he has said it's not really his cup of tea and TBH it's not mine either, I just saw it and thought it looked really good, paint scheme suits it, it's got the retro bike look, it's got a black engine and I love black engines, it's got chrome and I love chrome. It doesn't tick all my boxes but it ticks enough that I'll give it a go and see if I like it, if not I'll move it on and most likely make a profit.

At least you will never get a bad back and wrist ache on this Ken. Reminds me a bit of the Moto Morini Excalibur but a lot bigger!

Yeah it's a bit of a sit up and beg riding position.

Looks like it's asking for some flat-ish bars to give more attitude and meaner stance.

Does look like SOHC too, expecting to hear it's really grungy. Interesting to find out.

It'll keep my arm pits cool with the wind whistling down the arms of my leathers.

motor would be great in a cafe racer chassis. Saw a wicked Virago 1100 lump in a feather bed frame, ally tank, belt accross it the lot! y
It was in Bristol on Monday but couldnt get my camera out in time on my new crap phone. Didnt look but I pressume its a shaft drive too making things a bit trickier but possible i reckon.

Nothing wrong with a cruiser 😀👍I owned a Harley Davidson 883 Sportster which was to American spec, forward footrests and buckhorn handlebars plus other extras, once I’d changed the original elastic band chain for a proper one it was smooth as you like.
Just don’t try 70+ mph or you’ll feel like a windsock in a storm😱

Maybe spend a few minutes re-routing the handlebar wiring...

Yeah it's a little scruffy to say the least Andy. I'll try ziplocking it to the bars instead if they'll reach. Replace that big old clutch and brake hose with a nice thin black braided one as well.

Bike has been delivered today. Condition is pretty good. Battery bolloxed. Never seen one shaped like a letter T before, weird.

Partially dismantled, tank is a false one, it's actually under the seat and has a fuel pump to get it to the carbs.

Fair few little parts need attention, parts on order from CMS. Still needs a few more to get it really nice.

Brakes need attention, they work but bind on, Fluids needs changing, both clutch and brake. It turns over but I can't hear the fuel pump working so I need to test that, it almost fired at one point so maybe it is working.

Was on the road till 2020 as I can see the US tax sticker. Came from Pennsylvania.
