Title: cb400/4 front brake
Post by: gaz172 on February 02, 2023, 09:18:40 PM
On my 400/4 i did away with the front brake switch and put a stainless goodridge hose from master cylinder to caliper and it passed mot's in the eighties. i am now using it like that now but have been told this is illegal does anyone know if this is true as i was thinking of doing the same with the one i am working on now.

Gaz, surely the issue is not one of legality, but rather safety? Bikes are dangerous enough without being rear-ended for the sake of a switch.

Any bike manufactured before 1986 only needs EITHER a front or rear switch, not both.

But personally, I think the use of either brake should go through a switch, it's basic safety common sense.

4.3.2. Switching
Motorcycles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must have a stop lamp that switch on from both brake controls. However, a small number of motorcycles first used from this date were approved with the stop lamp switching on by only one control
