It’s always a barn isn’t it? Never a shed or disused garage.🤔🤔🤔

;D
Hasn't even got the location right either, Mytchett is definitely not Camberley, it's by far a more downmarket location ;D ;D

And Sooty lives there, Mytchett that is.
Or he used to :)
-
A lot of money required to get that one back…..bet there’s a turn out cost of not less than £5k?

The term Barn find has become sales speak for a rusty heap that would have gone to the breakers yard a decade ago.
Philip is right about the cost of making it something presentable. Excluding the purchase I've poured £3813.02 into my 500 money pit - still need to do something with the wheels, pay for paintwork & decide on an exhaust system - have none standard headlamp bracket & rear lamp.
My only solace is the percentage of cost & end value will be higher than Wendy's shoe collection. We do it for the joy of the build - I keep on reminding myself. When watching Bangers & Cash you see the reality of restoration v end value.
As a 74 year old now fully retired it's a pain that my current project will probably take a year or more longer my pocket money has been reduced by increased energy costs & general cost of living rise. I blame Mr.Putin for our energy woes but in reality it's way more complex than that as we all know. The privatisation of our energy production has come back to bite us.
I was reading an article yesterday about the de-commissioning of Sellafield Storage Pond from a 1940's reactor - completion of decontamination is projected as 2039 - they have spent around £220 million.

He probably lives in Camberley but bike is stored elsewhere ..nothing wrong this that in my book. looking at the guys feedback I would have no qualms about buying from him.
If the bike is on DVLA register .. then at the current price it is viable to restore ..if it goes for pots, then that's different... yea it looks rusty but it also looks unmolested to me, which has to be a bonus. Really depends on things like seat base being rotten or not and tank condition internally. etc etc

S'ok, I'm from there, and its joking.
Mytchett is so common they even play darts there ;D
-
Lacking an ignition barrel...maybe it's been twoc'd.
-
Or the original key was lost?

And gold sovereign rings

Mytchett Lark road was always the test track for the mechanics at Motorcycle City at Farnborough. It was like 20 Laguna Secas all rolled into one and always a great test road after the bikes had had their thing done in the workshop. Lived around there for a good 15 years.

....no, definitely twoc'd ... that's why it's been hidden in a barn for 30 years! ☺
-
I wonder how much that would cost to make half decent? (and NO, I'm not interested!!) :)

Depends if you are prepared to do a lot of it yourself .. otherwise it's go to a pro for lots of it and then it's a money pit.
Really a visit to look at it would tell you a lot.

Ridden and driven it for years, now has all sort of restrictions on it as so many accidents from peeps lobbing it at the trees. There's at least six flower shrine pinned to the surrounding timber as testament :o
-
Haven't seen many...... Lark...... around there though ;D
-
Yeah, cold sausage fingers on my phone and the dreaded spell check gremlin

It always did have accident written all over it. Mychett LAKE Road that is

The bike whilst complete, well almost complete is a rust bucket, most of the chrome work, whilst not looking that bad is essentially junk, the front mudguard is junk, the chain guard doesn't look that bad but from experience I'd say it would be very difficult to replate, I'm doing a 550F chain guard as we speak and mine is really hard work and it only had small pits in it, those will be big pits.
I'd buy it to break it but I wouldn't bother trying to restore it, too much work and the 550F has some rare bits on it that are very hard to find.
-
Fork ears will be rotted out inside, fork sliders will need hard chroming.
If it does not turn over who knows what the inside of the engine/gearbox might be like .
The advert saying he does not have time does not sit right somehow given that it was his fathers - at least that's how the listing reads..
My thinking is it is better to buy one that already had some tender loving care /dosh spent on it that's cosmetically sound just needs fettling to taste.
Simons 500 is testimony to buying something already pretty good when he bought it that he is improving with his ownership.
-
Changed my mind…..no change out of £6k. Still, if it’s what you want…..
-
It’s up to just over £900 already, somebody’s keen

There are a lot of us about. ;D ;D ;D
So far nine different bidders. 8) 8) 8)

Sold for an unreasonable £1276.

Prices on bikes that need work have increased quite a lot since I bought three in 2015-17. Prices on many genuine new spares and good used has doubled in many cases since then. Prices on refurbished bikes has remained at best static and probably fallen.
This is a better bet:
