Paid a visit with a mate to a Steaming Day at a very local Pumping Station at Clay Mills near Burton-upon-Trent.
I will post a short video clip when I have worked out how - the virtual tour does not do the place justice.

I did a driving experience in a Formula Renault single seater car. My bones are still aching today. I'm proud to say I was the only one to get it off the line without stalling it, some stalled the engine up to 4 times and had to be push started, clutch was either in or out, no halfway point at all, rained heavily as well which spoiled the 12 laps I did but at least I passed the other car on lap 5 and I set off half a lap behind. 2 of the cars were badly damaged smacking into tyre walls so only ended up with 2 cars on track at a time. Had to drive in my socks as I couldn't feel the pedals with trainers on and they were really close together.

I did that at Thruxton a good few years ago. In the dry, luckily. I remember lying almost horizontal and my legs getting bounced around on the fast bumps, hard to keep feet on the pedals!

Broadheath Road, Manchester. I know that road. Small world. Looks really interesting Ted, I wonder if they do foreigners on the lathe ;D ;D

The lathes were all part of the on site maintenance back in the day.
It was a Unitary Local Facility back in the Victorian era.
They even had a bath house in the main pump building basement where the workers family were allowed 2 hours a week to use the facility.
There used to be tied workers cottages close by for all the employees.

There is a similar beam engine at Crofton in wiltshire which they still use to fill the canal on working days
