I was wondering what the effect was of running resistor spark plugs (DR8ESL) AND resistor caps. With assistance from Roo (and a new set of recently refurbed carbs) I find the bike now runs pretty well with resistor caps and plugs (Dyna ignition). Will it be OK or should i revert to no resistor plugs. It appears (to me) the DS only seem to spuuply the DR8ESL and resistor plugs..... ???

Why are you buying from DS anyway?
I'd use D7EA myself or go for ND plugs, no chance of buying a fake with ND plugs.
-
I'm not buying from them. I just use it as an example.
Any thoughts?

My 400 runs on Dyna coils & ignition I have resistor caps & leads with spark to spare. Engine starts with kick start instantly.

Thanks Ted! will leave mine as is then.
A few little jobs left and she'll be ready for the summer!

On the subject of plugs, just had another failed NGK plug! This time on the Matchless. Bummer when you only have one cylinder.😡 Of course you’ve got to check everything else before you change the plug.🥵

As there probably not worth ever faking try Champion. lol
-
Unfortunately put another NGK in meantime, all that is available here. They still make champions?
-
Yep Halfords still sell em. Probably made in China.
The Green Spark Plug Co sell them

Where do you get your ND plugs from Ken, I've never been able to find them?
-
The Green Spark Plug company Dave. I buy them by the box full.
The official one for the 500 is X22ES-U (400 is X24 IIRC) but I believe X24 may be a better plug due to todays fuels. Can't say for sure as I haven't fitted any yet until the bikes on the road, hopefully later this year or early next year.

Cheers Ken, the Denso one for a 400/4 is X24ESR-U - which is, as you say, supplied by Green Spark Plug.
This was an interesting site I came across: https://www.sparkplug-crossreference.com/convert/NGK_PN/DR8ES-L (https://www.sparkplug-crossreference.com/convert/NGK_PN/DR8ES-L)

Hi Matt, you probably know but that is resistor plugs as well.

Yes, but as I have a massive spark with either plug, I'm not unduly concerned. (It's also the one listed in my parts book and incidentally, all the plug caps are listed as 'noise suppressor' ones - so I assume they are also resistor ones ?!) Hey ho!
-
They list resistor plugs in the parts book because the original plug caps weren't resisted. Fit resistor caps and you should really drop the resistor plugs.
It's why the OE caps had metal shrouds around them, this was to stop interference with old 425/625 lines on the TV screen.

Excellent, thanks Ken👍
