Title: Just fitted the selector forks on the shaft do they look right?
Post by: McCabe-Thiele (Ted) on May 15, 2023, 09:56:58 PM
So I spotted a scratched 3 on a selector fork so by deduction & looking at my pics fitted the left fork then middle fork etc in place.

When I checked my photos taken before I removed the shaft the odd casting mark on the right hand fork was now on the left.
I should have recorded the casting numbers but didn't. I'm assuming that the two outer selector forks are different
So removed the selector forks & tried again so the fork positions tally with my original picture. Not sure if there is a way of telling the difference between forks 1 & 3.
Not tried to fit a gear shaft yet as I don't want to get ahead of myself or damage anything.

Does the photo of my selector forks taken from the rear of the upside down casing look correct?
I used the orientation of the clips as per the Haynes manual.

Checked the parts book the K1 appears to have two right selector forks for the K1 ???

The forks are supposed to be stamped with an L and an R.

The right hand fork selector differs from the left hand one in it's profile. It has a small indent on one of the curved sides, it's the side with the thicker of the 2 forks at the bottom. The left hand one doesn't have this indent.

They are supposed to thread on right first, then middle and lastly left. That looks correct to me.

The right hand fork shows signs of scoring on the lower part of the circle where the gear sits. It's usual for the middle fork to be really badly damaged in the same way and for the tips to be burnt.

Thanks Ken, don't know why but woke up this morning and realised not all the clips are through the hole on the other side - I have fixed this.

I was getting my left & right nomenclature confused - it looks as if the fork nearest the operational end is named right - I forgot my casing is upside down so right is left as I look from the rear of the inverted casing. duh....

And if you read the parts book it says there are 4 selectors, 2 of one of them, dont believe it its wrong!
