Title: Spokes

How do the spokes come from the factory. I know they are steel but what rust protection do they get? I have a set that are good but a bit discoloured, will cleaning them with emery cloth or a wire brush ruin them.

Home plating kit would be handy in this instance. I haven’t plated spokes because mine were beyond plating it sounds like yours are good. You would probably buy a home plating kit for the cost of having them plated by someone else. Also consider stainless spokes!

They are zinc plated Gary, any sanding etc will take that off and they'll rust for fun.

OK, Ill look into plating, but might be easier, cheaper, just to buy new.

Buy stainless Gary or you'll have the same problem in a few years.
