Title: Looking for something that does not exist again!
Post by: McCabe-Thiele (Ted) on July 02, 2023, 07:47:41 PM
So today in preparation for fitting the engine case into the frame next week I looked for the bolts that hold the engine into place at the frame bottom.
I found two nice long shafts - one fitted nicely into the lower rear of the frame but the other was too large a diameter.

I am now fixated on looking for a thinner long bolt - I find one but it is too short. After checking my parts boxes contents list I failed to find the item listed anywhere.
I now check every box on my shelves A-Q to no avail - check them all again more thoroughly a couple of hours later - ziltch.

Look in the parts book - yep it ain't a long bolt like the I was expecting but two M10 x 80 bolts that I have .......durrrrr.

One long bolt at the back, dont forget to remove paint/coating from either side of rear lh plate where bolt goes and one long stud underneath with a footrest on each end Ted

Nice to know that there are others like me having Senior moments.
I'm finding that I sometimes spend more time looking for part than it does to fit it!
Apologies if your  a youngun.

I'm still a youngster at 75 - as you age the definition of young & old move with you as a reference point.

Spent ages trying to find my crankshaft the other day all the time thinking it was impossible to lose such a thing. Found it 15 min later camouflaged inside a pajama leg behind a box I’d used to protect it……. Thank goodness for parts list diagrams to protect us from our memories ( 65 years young )

More often than not, I spend hours looking for bits. Quite often they are right under my nose. Of course someone must have moved it there!!  ;)

I've noticed over the years that stuff that I can't find is always in the last place I look - so I've started to look there first these days to save precious time!   :)

If you look in the last place first then it becomes the first place so it will not be there - a sort of Murphys Law situation. ;D ;D ;D

I'll fetch my coat. 8) 8) 8)

I used to know more or less where everything was, but when I moved house I  had to box things up and now I'm having trouble working out where stuff is. It's going to take me a while!
I got rid of a lot of metal offcuts and crap to save having to move it. I'm probably going to need some of it soon and won't remember if it went or I kept it. 😫

There used to be a line at the bottom of my posts that said

" Of course its in the last place you look, you stop looking when you find it"

I probably nicked it from you Bryan, nowt's new!
Another problem I have is that I know exactly which box/drawer or shelf something is on - but that was at the old place in Southport and we moved here 17 years ago!

It's a bugger, this getting old but the alternative is far worse!
