Last year I suggested a meet up in Scotland for forum members, particularly those that live in more remote parts and don't travel too far down South. We don't want to be corrupted by the Southern Softies! 😉
Just kidding, the arthritis stops me from riding too far these days. The joys of reaching retirement age.
So, if anybody fancies meeting up, I suggest The Crieff Visitor Centre, PH7 4HQ on 29th or 30th June.
It's fairly central Scotland and has a large free car park, restaurant and facilities. It's a regular stop off for me when out for a ride.
There is plenty of accommodation in Crieff and surrounding area if anybody needs to stay over or are touring Scotland at the same time.
Nothing is set in stone, so date and place are flexible.

Hi,
I think a few of us up here would be up for it - I'm away mid May to early June but OK rest of time,

That would be great Ian. 👍

That’s 450 miles from me.
But only 20 miles from Little Dunkeld, which is where my great grandfather was from.
One day I will visit.

Break the journey halfway, makes it less painful. 😁

only 200 miles for me quite doable if i come up the night before.....

Good stuff, Hubert. 👍
If there are no objections the meet up will be on Sunday 30th June.
I'll be there from about 1100 onwards. Looking forward to meeting everyone who can make it.

Hi Gareth,
If all goes to plan I will be back in plenty of time from my little jaunt to Germany and Austria on the Forza, so should be able to use the 550 for the trip. I think I might stay somewhere nearby for a night either side. How long were you planning on staying after we've all got fed and watered? I could probably stay at my Sister's place in Aberdeenshire and catch the Ferry home the next day

Bugger, I'm in Malta on the 30th,but will be in Crieff in spirit ;D

Hi Ian,
I can stay all afternoon as required. I'm less than 2hours from Crieff.
Teenybop, we can always do it again if people want to.

Apologies I can’t make it after all have been asked to help out at a police Bikesafe event. Next time.👍

I think I can make it Gareth probably staying over as the last ferry on a Sunday is at four..
Looking forward to it 😄

Gareth
Is there any chance it could be on Saturday 29th as I can make it there and back in a day, on Sundays the ferries are ten and four making it necessary to stay over two nights to be there...if that's convenient with the others of course

I'm OK with that. Will that be a problem for anyone else?
If anybody has made bookings and can't change them, we'll stick to 30th.

29th is fine with me Gareth! 👍

Got the 500 Four ready for the 29th, the carbs are ok now thanks to the other members, I fitted the YSS piggyback shocks from my Kettle. Brook suspension provided two clevises to replace the bottom eyes not cheap at £79 but these are excellent shocks adjustable for compression and rebound damping independently...they seem to work well on the 500 first run out since buying it last year... YSS springs up front from Firefox Racing, front brake with new pads and fluid, Boyer ignition fitted and the light switch internals repaired with bits from the parts box.
First run tomorrow 🙂[attachimg=1]👍

The bike is looking great, I think it is looking forward to the ride too. 😁
I've booked good weather for the weekend. It'll be a good reason to get away from all this election nonsense.
-
So how many of us are going, folks? And is there a plan for meeting at the visitor centre?
Bike ran well on the run, Gareth but the fuel tap had been got at so in main it was on reserve, so I coughed and spluttered my way along till it ran bone dry 10 yards from the petrol station pump!
Fixed now with one from the spares box 🙂
-
Hi, I'm glad that you've sorted your bike out. Good timing for the meet.
I'm not sure how many are coming, I guess 5 - 10 SOHC members. There may be a few classics from my local club, Scottish Classic Motorcycle Club as well. There are a few Honda fours and twins in the club.
The main car park at the Visitor Centre is at the rear of the building. Follow the access road round to the car park and I'll try and pick out a location for us all to park together.
-
Hi Gareth,
Back from our big trip to Germany and Austria and just putting together the details for the meeting next weekend. I'll probably end up using the Forza - from Orkney it's a fair trek without the ability to carry very much, especially as we will need an overnight stop each way and the ferries, so I hope you'll all forgive me for not turning up on a classic SOHC/4!
Hope to see you all soon,
Ian

No problem Ian. See you on the 29th!
-
Well folks, that's me fully booked for the trip - Ferries sorted, staying 2 nights in Speyside, so I get a pleasurable (hopefully!) 500+ miles round trip, broken into easy chunks. Should manage a rendezvous around 11.00 in Crieff.
Johnny, couldn't find anything in or around Carrbridge - another time eh?
Ian

Great news Ian ☺ï¸
The forecast for that weekend and days either side is good 👍
I'm riding up from home on the Saturday should be there about 12.30 and have the late ferry booked so plenty of time to relax and maybe go for a run out in the afternoon , Gareth? Historic Kenmore anyone 😄
Kind regards Hubert
-
Same here all booked too, two nights in Carrbridge and open to any suggestions of runs, very easy pleased and looking forward to it! Great news the weather is finally on the turn too!

For a run out in the afternoon I would recommend the A85 through St Fillans, Lochearnhead then up to Killin and North side of Loch Tay to Kenmore.
Beware, a lot of country roads have been top dressed, with all the loose gravel that brings. ☹
-
Sounds great Gareth 😄👍 I'm easily pleased too and happy to go with what most people want...I've done this one too , many times and it's a super run[attachimg=1]

I dropped into the Crieff Visitor Centre this afternoon. All looks good for Saturday.
If you haven't been there before, there are 2 entrances, one Northside and one Southside. You can use either one on the way in, just follow the road round to the car park.
The photos show both entrances and where I will be in the car park. (Southwest corner)
I hope that the weather holds. ☀ï¸😎
-
Looking forward to it Gareth, thanks for the pics of the set up there. Staying in Carrbridge the night before so nice 2hr ride on Saturday to travel to Crieff. Maybe meet with Ian somewhere along the way. I’ll be in touch with him.
-
Hi Johnny,
I'll be in Grantown on Spey for the 2 nights, so will be riding out through Carrbridge to join the A9. Do you have bike to bike intercom in your helmet? I'll try and ring later to exchange mobile numbers. 'What 3 words' for your digs would help too.
Ian
-
I'll be there at about 12.30, the Calmac ferry gets in to Oban at ten....weather looks better away from the coast, dry at Crieff ...see you all there....Ian and Johnny, you're setting off tomorrow?
-
Hi Hubert,
Yes, we are both setting off tomorrow, I'm on the Stromness/Scrabster boat and Johnny on Banks's boat to Gill's Bay. I'm staying in Grantown on Spey and Johnny in Carrbridge, hopefully meeting up there for the ride down,
Ian

Admire all of your tenacity and willingness to travel by various motor driven craft in getting to meet.
Its like having a Navy division of the forum ;D
Hopefully you get good weather for the outing.
-
As long as its the red duster navy!
-
Weather in Crieff is looking good for tomorrow 😊👍 I'm like a cat 😺 hate getting me and the bike wet 😅
-
Looking forward to seeing some photos of great bikes in glorious surroundings. Hope the weather holds for you all.
-
It's fallen very well Dave, there's a gap in the rain fronts sweeping in from the west , just for Saturday and Sunday...good for Ian and Johnny heading back on Sunday....here today on Lismore it's coolish with rain....
I'll be sure to take some photos 😎👍
-
Not sure anyone will see this before setting off, but I spotted this on SCMC's Facebook last night. I'll head up to Crieff shortly. Looking forward to seeing some more old Hondas!

Great to hear that, I'll be there about 12.30 ...weather is looking good 😊👍 bit drizzly here on the coast but should be fine in Crieff
-
Many thanks to Gareth for the initial suggestion and to all of those who turned up yesterday in the lovely warm sunshine in Crieff. A few of us had a great ride around the area after a good natter at the Visitor Centre.
More details will no doubt follow and the important pictures! I'm on my way back to Orkney for the last sailing (7pm) and about to set off from Grantown on Spey for what appears to be a dry (at first) 140 miles.

Also from me, thanks Gareth for organising it...good to meet and. Chat, nice place with nice coffee and a great run out to historic Kenmore ☺ï¸
-
Thanks very much to everybody who came to the meet yesterday. Ian, Johnny, Hubert, Kenneth and myself from SOHC and Ian, Steve and John from Scottish Classic Motorcycle Club.
The weather behaved itself which always helps!
The bikes ranged from a CB250, 3 x 400fours, CB55OK, a CX 500 Turbo and a Pan European. Not forgetting Ian's Forza.
Great company. I'm looking forward to doing it again. 🏍 😎

Well done, it looks like fun

Ok Ted, sitting at the table L to R, Orcade-Ian, Johnny4428, me and Honda Enthusiast (Hubert)
Winterfield (Kenneth) is in the 2nd photo in the brown jacket.
-
Thanks, respect to those that rode a fair distance for the meet.
-
Looks like it was a good day out. Nice to put faces to names.
3 400/4’s in attendance, there must be an endangered breeding program going on!
-
For Scottish bred variants they would have Highland Horns fitted with Tartan side panels!👯
-
Spooky happenings with the names:
G, H, I, J and K.
Let’s see if we can get the other 21 next time (might be short of Xavier and Zebedee though!)
OK, I’ll get me coat!

Just like to add my gratitude to Gareth for instigating the SOHC Scotland meet. It didn’t get off to a good start as Ian will testify, leaving Orkney in the rain with increasing winds just to add to the theme.
I must say driving off the ferry at Gills and heading through Caithness in the horizontal rain and must have been near gale force wind made the trip a bit “interestingâ€. It was definately the worst weather I have ridden in! I managed 17 miles before I pulled into Tesco’s in Wick for a full breakfast. Set off again feeling better with a full stomach and the weather slowly improving, the trip got better and better. I was glad I was on a 1100 and not on a C90 that’s for sure. Met with Ian the next morning in Carrbridge and we set off for Crieff. Had an u eventful journey down the A9, eventually tuning off and heading into some beautiful scenery. Really great to meet you guys for the first time although I feel as if I already knew you. Of course we had bright sunshine in Crieff, what a contrast to the weather Ian and I set off in the day previous. Had an enjoyable return journey to Carrbridge and then to Orkney the following day. Must do it again! I covered 906 miles on the Pan within the week which included a partial NC500 earlier on in the week with a friend. Thanks all for the good company!
