Title: Valve Stem Oil Seals, Eight or Four?
Post by: Eldrick on June 19, 2024, 01:21:57 PM
On my valve stems (Inlet Side) I have a rubber oil seal with a metal spring on its base. On the Exhaust side stems there are no such seals. My Workshop manual says I need eight and my Haynes Manual says I need four.
How many do I need please?

Depends on year and who has worked on it previously, look at the top of the guides and if flat topped fit seals, if cone shaped do not. In these instances it would only be correct if seals were missing on exhaust side

On the 500,fit 8

The top of the guide should have a groove for the seal to locate

On the 400/4 I have only ever seen the seals on the inlet guides. The inlet and exhaust guides are different part numbers.

Four it is then.
