Title: That old Candy Starlight Gold Chestnut again !
Post by: AshimotoK0 on October 09, 2024, 12:10:03 PM
I want to have a go at painting a 500K0 paint set in Candy Starlight Gold.. then I will probably be hanging up my spray guns for a bit, as all of my bikes are painted now, once I have clear-coated my CB250RSA.

I have got a couple of paint companies keen to help me match the Candy Starlight gold. They both asked me for a Honda code though .. which I know is meaningless    .. or is it? I typed in the code for my CB250RSA Hawiian Blue and as if by magic there was a paint company selling it under that code. Maybe by the late 1970's/early 1980's the codes became more meaningful. (see the attached .pdf for Honda codes)

Problem is nobody seems to recognise the Starlight Gold code. (ie KC is for the CB500K0)

The best I have to go on is this pic below that Oddjob (Ken) posted.

Does anyone have a spare panel to loan me please? ... I will pay postage costs both ways BUT please not one off a bike  .. just  a spare if anyone has one.

Ken would have been all over this post if he was still contributing!

Cheers Steve ... I really wouldn't want to risk a cover that's part of someone's paint set thanks but very kind of you to offer.

Bit of good news, I have been emailing paint supplies to see if they do Honda paint but generally getting a blank response on the Candy Starlight Gold. However, a guy from South Yorkshire got back to me saying he knows the Starlight Gold colour and can supply paint  either in aerosol or gun paint. So watch this space. Good news is he also custom paints a couple of bikes / week himself and has been painting bikes for 40 years.
What I might do, if they are agreeable,  is paint a couple of spray out cards and send one to Steve, Oddjob and ChrisR plus possibly BryanR (if his tank is SG) as they all have Candy Starlight bikes and they can tell me what they think.

He seems to know his stuff and a great guy to deal with in terms of free advice.... fingers crossed the paint is a good match Dom. I just came across them trawling the internet and then I notice you had asked in a previous post if anyone had used them. Worth asking him about clear coat for DIY use I reckon.

I worked  out that my candy coat paint is around £44 inc. VAT  & delivery from him  and from RS the same amount would be £124.

A couple of weeks ago mate bought 0.5 litre of candy paint (thins to 1.0 l ) and 0.5 litre of ground-coat (thins to 1.0 l ) described (as Candy Rub Red BUT not specifically Honda) and the lot inc. VAT was £55 from a local paint supplier in Hull. He got me to paint his 1957 Ariel Square Four in that colour ..it looks great but not one for Ariel purists as it was originally a muck maroony colour. Doesn't bother him though he basically doesn't give a f*ck about anything at all.

Well, I was going for a metallic grey/gunmetal mate but then I saw Candy Forest Green, probably bitten off more than I can chew with this one being candy but the paint hasn't cost me much at all as Ash has found out.  If I balls it up I'll just get it done by someone and put it down to experience 😀
