a pal called me off here and he's over there now, travelling back next week, he's gonna pick it up and bring it home with him.
Thanks to all concerned for the replies, you're a top bunch. I haven't seen this stand for sale before in such good nick and back in the day they weren't standard and only fitted from the parts book if requested. Nobody did and those bikes that have filtered down have had their's broken and or removed so they are super rare. This one is brand new old stock so a minter and a bit of a unicorn. It doesnt help that the bike was only made for three year so you can understand the rarety. It also means I now can do my fiddling a great deal easier, wheels, maintenance etc better for a 240kg bike.

Bought a week ago off the Bay of Fleas, 31K, full stamped honda service book by honda bar one, new 'Burton' fork internals, new rear shock (YSS), new stainless high lift conical headers and a period Remus twin outlet pipe fitted. New boots slid on, (Bridgestone so Im gritting my teeth a bit) put on 200 miles ago before I bought it. Serviced filters, fluids and serviced in September also ;D
Proper swiss watch, I ran it home from wales with Multiman Tim and his lad on his 600 for a run out. I knew they were good but it was the one I never had, shes' an absolute babe, starts with just a whiff of choke and is awesome on the road, reallypositive, rock solid on its side and quick for an old girl. AWESOME sound track as an additional extra, I defy anyone to say gear driven cams are a bad sound! The soundtrack is simply encourageable and a proper grin inducer.
To that end, I've christened her 'Betty' with reference to Betty Grable as, and I quote, 'She's got some legs' 8)
Bad points:-
The PO was terribly proud of the fact that he'd fitted new braided lines both front and back and a new line to the hydrolic clutch. Sadly he chose orange :o
He also said they were the best brakes he has ever had on a bike and blah blah. Well all i can say is he must have ridden some proper donkeys as the fronts are like an on off swith with no progression, feel or power with a two stage lever action ;D ;D
They never had good brakes when new and only a twin pot double set up on sliders at the front but these are terrible.
What doesnt help is the rear being super hard and locks up at a whiff so they're getting changed and bless him, he's got one of the brake lines and the clutch line mixed up so the NS front line is ablut 6" too long (to allow the distance to the clutch) ;D
Hes welded a big blob to the side stand as it has one offa later 1994 on it and its hard to reach the tip to get it down using your boot. It looks vile so Ive an original coming from Australia, again NOS so not doing badly as yet.
Just some extra gubbins to buy to complete tha centre stand hardware but sorting those in the next week or so....fingers crossed.
Few chips in the paint at the front but no dents, all OE panels, everything works, one decal missing on the tail but an interesting colour, it almost has a flip flop pearl about it.
You can just make out the grey circles he's fitted to the sides and rear so I have to investigate those but all in all a fantabulous buy and an unmolested example that with a bit of a tickle should be bob on. £800, why wouldnt you?

The Remus can looks very smart, I had a Remus fitted to my old Viffer, great sound when wound up. You can't beat that beautiful cam gear drive sound and exhaust note, very addictive. You have a bargain there with Betty 8)
As for France, I'd love to be over there now just to get out of this rain!

Im going to have a bit of a parts search, I might as well and it's a day out, I've already contacted my scrap bloke out there and hes sending me a key to get in as he'll be shut down for two weeks during when i can get a chance to get to him. inbetween netting etc...........thats trustr for you eh? Lovely fella he said to just leave him some cash and the key when im done ;) :).
Yeah, the RC36 has two flavours, this one whuch is refered to as teh RC36-1 and the later one from 1994-97 pre 800Fi was the RC36-2
The center stand was an additional extra in the brochure for the 36-1's and then standard after that on the 36-2's moving on. Who'd have thopught they would sell them like that, personally I love a center stand and been searching and searching for one this last ten days only to find only two. On all the forums they are heavily sought after as i can only presume that they werent aware of them being so hard to buy from a limited run, on few bikes just built over three years and got caught out also.
At least we're getting there, I reckon with the brakes at the front, lines, pads and a bit of faff, I should have her mechanically spot on by Feb once I've finished playing fish for the year. Budget? £400, all in I reckon minus any paint etc.......cheap bike. Just saw one with double the miles, older and in crap nick go for £2199, i think ive done well here, its a hell of a lot of bike for what should be £1,200 ish once done.
She's a belter Dave, just rides like a new bike, rock solid, dead predictable, responsive, just awful stoppers ;D

The brakes, I think you'd get good odds on the caliper seal grooves being properly gummed and holding aluminium corrosion to give that effect.
You'd normally feel braided lines only under more extreme load and not initial touch.
If gummed, the seals don't retract the pistons when released and make the lever travel short with very wooden progression. That'll also polish the pads like a French polished piece of Chipendale furniture, giving naff all overall bite when you get into them with more leverage.
Likely they'll be dragging slightly in constant too tight contact, produces heat all the time and gives a right old polish to friction surface of pads.
A full strip out and clean of the seal etc makes a huge difference. Using silicone grease to reassemble keeps them particularly on point afterwards.

Ive always had braided lines, HH or sintered pads on all my bikes and when I had all my kit, used to make my own.
Possibilities are as follows:
RC51 (VTR1000) lowers as these fit the vfr stantions. Then you have the opportunity to choose from a plethora of different set ups.
swap to a cbr954 front end for uber set up varience (expensive and I'm not Rossi!)
There's all sorts you can do but the 40mm center mounting holes restricts the choice. Brembo Goldline are 39.7mm so a good starting point. In conjunction with a smaller 14mm master cylinder , (GSXR1000 K2), which I can tune to suit my riding with after market levers, I should end up with progressive, powerful 'fronts' with plenty of adjustment which is what I'm used to.
Seems to be the best costed scenario but that all depends on state of donor calipers etc.
I've managed to have one finger braking on my bikes for years and that system took a while to fine tune , but with a bit of a fettle and time I'm sure its not insurmountable.
If I was looking to spend a bit more I could swap the front rim to a VFR400 which would add options of floating discs which would be lovely but I'll see. You know what Honda are like, if you stick your hands in as many of the parts bins as you can, eventually you'll find something that fits together and compatible.
It's not a racer so good, reliable front brakes are a simple requirement, I will end up swapping the calipers to the goldlines and nanny her up to an acceptable level but for now a strip, clean and inspection will do as it's October now and I'm away on the 27th until Crimbo so it's not like i'm really going to get much time on her. Just give me more time to scour the availability of bits over there in the good old US of A. and more time to investigate options.
Betty is a keeper though for sure.
