Hello,
The fuel tap I have on the bike has started leaking, not sure if the seals are replaceable? It looks new, and I was given a receipt for one when I bought the bike. Maybe it’s a cheap one!?
Please can someone point me in the right direction of a good fuel tap for CB550 1976 US import.
Weirdly on David Silver there’s no image, and it’s £61!!!

It gets a bit complicated on those models as tanks easily interchange, early ones had same as 500 and 750 with two screws holding tap to tank inside the removable filter bowl and these are rebuildable then there are two different threaded boses on the tank plus either one or two outlet spigots, these are not rebuildable and very expensive to get if available.
At least with Silver if it turns out wrong he will accept returns

I bought a decent replacement tap for my 550f from Ebay, it's serviceable but single outlet if that matters to you buy looking at yours you can fix it.

You will find it difficult to get spares for that, maybe a generic O ring under the plate but that will be it but get viton to cope with ethanol.
From memory and dont quote me i think the threaded bosses are 16mm or 20mm

You can get the seal and filter kit for the tap connection, where it screws onto tank that is. I have three of these on different bikes where I have sort of “nursed†them to keep them from weeping fuel. Someone one here had a go at getting the plastic/nylon bit in the centre made on a 3d printer, can’t remember the outcome, don’t think it was too successful.

Thanks Dom, I'm not bothered about having a reserve tap, so a single outlet would be great. Please could you point me in the direction of the type you purchased from ebay, as I see there are a few different ones!
My Dad is going to try and lap the taper in the alley part of the tap, he thinks that might fix it.

The twin outlet is for the two carb feeds I don't think it has anything to do with the reserve position.

That would make sense, but I guess I can just use the one Dom recommended above and add a T piece to feed both carbs?

My original 400 tap was in poor condition - it refurbished okay using a DS strainer/tap repair kit although for one O ring I used the original as they suggested fitting two thin rings in place of one.
I did buy a tap from e-bay that was the wrong thread & was returned, to date the repaired original has not leaked (2 years).
If you are not in a rush, sometimes private NOS parts do pop up if you know the part numer you have it helps when searching.
With the new e bay listing rules more parts might surface.
