I have decided to get the 550 frame painted.
First question wet paint or powder coat?
I sort of fancy trying wet paint (2 pack )as it is closer to original finish. However I had my CBX powder coated and it came out really good so I am open to both. The CBX was done in 2003 but the people that did it are no longer in business.
I am looking for recommendations for a good painter or powder coating, I do want a good finish.
I am in Nottinghamshire so looking for say 40 mile radius, Notts, Derby, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, South/ West Yorkshire.
I have had a phone quote from Dream Machine for around £450 for paint and a bit less for powder coat. It’s a long time some I had anything painted so out of touch with prices.

The best powder coater in the UK is in my opinion TripleS, they are based in Halifax, not sure if that's too far for you. He specialises in bikes, even had his blasting cabinet extended so he could fit the frames in better. His metallic paint finishes are awesome, Candy Apple Red is just lovely. I've used him for years now and another member, Grommitdog, has his frame in as we speak. Might even be done by now. Think the cost is around the £150-200 mark, he used to have a price list up but it's no longer there, maybe ring them. Have a look through his gallery and all the reviews, most of the bike magazines use him for projects.

Don't forget, it's not the cost of the frame that matters, it's all the other bits you seem to forget also need doing, yokes, swinging arm, stands, engine brackets, speedo bracket, seat pan if you're going to the extreme, all those little brackets that hold stuff on etc. Try and make a list and post it on here, we can maybe spot stuff that you've missed, nothing worse than finding out you've missed a part and it's dragging the look of the bike down when you start to assemble it.

Just to confirm oddjobs comments, Triple s powder coated my 350-4 frame, swingarm, yokes etc and did an excellent job. Very helpful company, my first choice.

Spoke to Grommitdog a few hours ago and he has given me some info. He had his frame done along with 48 other pieces, the price was £600, which sounds really expensive. However some of that was because his frame was already powder coated and it was difficult to remove. I doubt yours would be as expensive but be prepared for a shock 8) 8) 8) 8)

Well after a bit of a delay, I finally got my frame ready to go for powder coating and took it in yesterday, I have chosen a local company TJ Powder coating, they do a lot of car wheels and get very good reviews, I looked at their work and it looks good so fingers crossed, won’t really know until I get it back. They have promised a quick turnaround of about 7 days, so not long to wait. We will see.

After a bit of a delay getting the frame to the powder coater, I now have it back and it looks good, so now for the rebuild.
The cost was £160 for the frame, swing arm, centre stand, side stand, battery box, and both engine brackets.
The work was done by TJ powder coaters in Basford Nottingham.
