I'm wondering about the condition of my front forks, by pushing and braking I seem to detect a slight catchiness, a reluctance to rebound. Hopefully jus time to do the fork oil, it's been ages since I did that. :-[
But a pre-emptive search for spare parts produces sources for the two o rings and the short ( more vulnerable?) springs in the bottom of the fork, but the main long springs are nowhere to be found on the two main sources, DSS and CMSL.
Question is, are these things prone to wear or one of those parts that last forever?

There is a minimum length for the fork springs in the manual.
If they are within limits really no need to replace them.

Hi Ted, hunted high and low in my online manual, which has 'limited permissions' so maybe they are not there. Have you got manual (anyone) that has the length & diameter they are meant to be. I have seen some on ebay with lengths given so if I end needing to replace there is hope. :)

Snip from shop manual below.
My experience with this is most likely misalignment or bent stanchion causing them to bind a bit. Check the chamfer on the top of the stanchion looks the same both sides in reference to the surface of top yolk.
Sometimes rotating the stanchions a bit from their current position might help. Or pack a few washers in the top to increase the preload.
Rolling the stanchions across the kitchen table will reveal all.

My 1975 Cycleserve Manual shows 426.5 mm with a service limit of 416 mm.for the 400F.
My Haynes Manual gives just one figure 450 mm.
Aladdins cave shows the figure as per Dave 478.6 service limit 450.
