Title: Hi from Kent, England
Post by: Neilw on January 28, 2026, 04:01:08 PM
Hi, I'm Neilw a new member from Kent in England.

I've just purchased my first project bike, a CB550, and am looking forward to being part of the community.

My first issue is identifying what i have purchased, so i'll make a post wioth some information in the 550 forum.

A little about me: I rode bikes in my late teens and early 20s, but kept falling off or hitting things, so I moved on to cars.

Having reached 62 and retired, nostalgia has caught me, along with the lure of the open road. Hence, my first project bike.

I'm here to learn and share

That's the plan! I'd forgotten how heavy these bikes are!

Welcome to the sohc community Neil

I'm 77 now, it's pulling my bikes on the center stand that makes me feel old.

Hi Neil, and welcome to the forum, yes it hurts when you hit things and generally doesn’t do the bikes any good. Hopefully with your new found lease of the bike life you will stay upright at least.🤣 Good luck with the 550. Look forward to pics and progress.

Oh Ted, that really is a problem shared!!.. Even with my 400, when I am going to put it on the centre stand in the garage, I place a short piece of wood in front of the rear wheel, then roll the bike onto this, then it is far easier to operate the stand. Means I can then walk back into the house without my hand stuffed down the front of my jeans putting everything back into place!!!   PS 79 in a couple of months. Regards, Mike.

Welcome to the forum you are at the right place for knowledge of and help with the 550, it’s a great friendly place so don’t be worried about asking what might seem like the daftest questions.

I am restoring a 1975 K1 which is slowly going back together and starting to look like it might turn out nice.

Thank you for the welcome.  I'm quickly discovering the joys and challenges of stripping down a 48yr machine. I'll have lots of questions.
