Title: 500/4 racer build blog for 2011 Manx GP
Post by: hondafreak on May 04, 2011, 09:35:14 AM
John Davies is entering a 500/4 in the Senior Classic at the Manx this year, with Chris McGahan piloting. I have set up a blog so that anyone who is interested can follow the progress of the build & development.
http://davies500four.typepad.com (http://davies500four.typepad.com)
The aim is to make a bike that is competitive with the Paton and MV but on a much lower budget - targets are 125kg bike with >70bhp engine.
The rolling chassis is nearing completion - awaiting the wheels back from Central Wheel - and the cylinder head is well on its way - awaiting cams and followers back from superfinishers.
The bike will run 4 open meggas, so irrespective of perfomance it will make a suitably loud noise all the way round the 37 3/4 mile course.
John has already sold 7 frame sets of the bike, of which at least one more should be at the Manx this year. Most will probaly compete on short circuits in UK, but we  hope a few more will appear in road racing over the next few years.

Thanks,

Peter HondaFreak Jones

That's really interesting, thanks for posting the details for us.

Some very nice details and engineering in that frame and as you point out it should sound good as well.

More information posted - wheels, pistons & rods. Engine coming together now. Head work nearly finished, inlet manifolds in process - carbs?! VM26 is all we can use as the CRs are ineligible for CRMC and ManxGP. WE are trying to devise a way of linking them in pairs...ideas, on a postcard, to the usual address.
