Title: Phillips head bolts ??

Hi Folks i am going to replace all the allen head casing bolts with original phillips head bolts for the clutch,generator cover etc,

Whats the best way to torque these up is it with a impact driver(i think thats what there called) the one where you tap with a hammer ?? Like this one

I would not use an impact driver if you want to torque them use a normal torque wrench with either correct bit in socket or bit holder I find 3/4"  drive handy on bikes.

 :) i also replace any Allen socket bolts with the original crosshead bolts, but be careful they are not the Phillips size heads .they are Japanese industrial standard and not as deep as Phillips screws, and made to slip if over tightened so just nip em up,and you only need an impact driver to get em out   :o

Yeah i like them to i have some on the head and oil pan can you buy kits ???

Only ever seen socket head kits Stu. Agreed I hate the cross heads, have replaced all the small stuff on switches etc with cheese head stainless too, no, doesn't look the same but looks a lot better than a chewed crosshead.

Hadn't thought of 8mm bolts, guess as long as there is space to get a ring spanner on I'd be all for it.

Problem you have is that those bolts have a non standard sized head, along with a built in washer for the size of thread so tend to be manufacturer specific rather that available as a generic bolt

Oddjob, its the Honda 12mm head that is none standard on 8mm bolts, ISO sez 13

So why did ISO go for 13mm?

Maybe the chairman of the committee at the time was a Brit and didn't want to throw away his 1/2" socket...

Quite probably Steve, or maybe a yank who didn't want metric at all!! There are some other non prefered spanner sizes on the Japanese stuff , 17 i think was one and 23 another but with my memory that could well be wrong!

Anyone know who sells drivers / bits to fit JIS please?
