Title: BROKEN BIT IN SUMP
Post by: paul G on May 24, 2013, 08:24:46 AM
Hi,

Removed the sump on the 550 K3 yesterday and found this broken bit.
Can anyone help me with its identification.

Regards,

It looks very like a dog from a gear, definitely warrants a full stripdown and inspection, as a major gearbox failiure (and possibly a serious accident if the rear wheel locks at speed) or totally wrecked engine is imminent. PLEASE don't ride it until you have checked it out

Looks like a dog snapped off a gear. Best drop the engine and split the bottom cases and drop in a replacement gear sooner than later. Spares should be easy enough to locate, if you get stuck for a spare gear, I have several gearboxes broken up for parts and could probably dig out the requisite bit(s)

;) yep its better to strip it down asap ,gear-box seizure can be fatal as you cannot disengage a seized gearbox when riding the bike, reminds me of that bad crash barry sheen had in Daytona so be careful out there
