Cleaned carbs up and now to fit all of the new bits.
The needle is set at the second notch up,anyone know
if that is the standard setting.
cheers Rich

They are normally in the centre notch
-
with most other bikes i have put them in the centre. The bike is going to have a 4 pipe system
it was running on a motad 4 into 1,Would it have been changed because of that although i thought only jets may be changed.

I would put in the middle setting and alter the jetting , on my F1 I was running a homemade 4into1 & s&b filters and jetted up to 125 main jet, ;) cheers Mick

Motad 4 into ones shouldn't need any carburation changes, my F1 is running one with standard jetting and centre notch needle position. I have standard airbox / filter.
Strange yours was in second notch, that would richen mixture over throttle range 1/4 to 3/4 approx. perhap p.o. was being cautious? or had non standard filters?

would you think it should be on the centre for standard pipes then?
Last time i took it out my son was following and said he thought it smelled rich.
The exhaust valves do look very sooty. How much of a nightemare is lifting the head
and cleaning and reseating the valves, done it several times on British twins.
The engine is out of the frame.
