MOT due in a couple of weeks, just checking her over after winter layup, all ok accept horn isnt working. checked horn across battery terminals works ok, and checked connections all ok. am i missing something?
-
Yep, you are missing this part:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Retro-Bike-Bicycle-Horn-Air-Horn-Circus-Clown-Horn-Bell-Hooter-/251494370189?pt=UK_SportGoods_CyclAcces_RL&hash=item3a8e3b8b8d
This will get you out of trouble until you find the problem.
If you put this part on your bike it will pass a MOT. NO Joke. The law states the vehicle must have a working horn.
-
No joke indeed.
Exactly what I did one time in the 70's with my 500/4. MOT station was also a push-bike shop. Took one of those cheap horns off the shelf, bolted it onto the handlebars and passed MOT.

You will probably find that the button contacts are corroded, try spraying WD40 into it and when pushing the button try and twist it a bit as well

Love it,
You should hear it, fitted one to my mother in laws electric chair scared the shit out of the French in the supermarkets.

Wish I could sadly she passed away a couple of years ago still miss her so funny watching her buzz in and out of the dopey bastards squeezing the horn. The best mother in law you could wish for if it wasn't for her I would have no Honda today.
