Mike, the plastic bush dimensions are rather irrelevant, as they change when fitted. Best thing to do is measure the inside diameter of your swinging arm and the outside diameter of the collar which which the pivot bolt fits into. Although , I'm not sure brass would be the best material to make them from, phoshour bronze would be much better due to it's oil retaining properties, and these are readily available on e bay from germany for less than £15.00 a pair delivered, and I use them so I know they fit and work well

Yep, they're the ones! Make sure before fitting them that you soak them for 24-48 hours in engine oil (clean oil!) or better still EP90 gear oil. This is because phosphor bronze is porous and will last even longer if lubricated before fitting! ;D

I have fitted loads of those bushes from Frank in Germany. They are very good quality but, press them in. Do not use a hammer as these damage easy.

I'm going to refresh this topic. Got new bushings supplied by PO with bike, but they are too small (OD) so I can just push them inside swingarm by thumb, morever have play over the brand new collar.

Can someone recommend where I should buy proven quality? Is it still from twowheelsfrank from Germany?

As you are in mainland Europe, i would suggest and recommend you buying them from Frank. If you were in UK, I would suggest you buying them off my Ebay page 😀😀😀

So twowheelsfrank is Frank you mentioned, right?

I would check your swing arm Erny. Those bushes are the same as you will get if ordered from Frank or myself. They are the correct ones for your bike.

Erny, the ones in the picture above, I take it they were the ones the PO gave you or the picture from the video?

Then they are the correct bushes for your bike and are the same as myself and Frank would supply, identical.

So what's wrong? They cannot go inside swingarm by thumb...

Hang on one moment and I will give you the dimensions of the bush I sell so you can compare.

If I compare new bronze and old stock I see difference (absolute value might not be perfect due to caliper)

The measurements are as follows:-
OD 26.50
ID 21.40
Total length 44.00
Depth of top lip 2.00
OD of lip collar 31.90
Length excluding collar 42.00 (length sitting inside swing arm)

Your original bushes, the ones supplied by the PO and the ones I sell measure so close together to make no difference. I would measure the ID of your swing arm and compare with another CB500/4 swing arm. I see you have had your swing arm powder coated. Did you block off the ends before or leave open and then clean powder coat out?

Are your old bushes loose in the swing arm now?

No it is not powder coated. It is only sprayed with black spray. Holes were covered when spraying. If I take mechanical caliper, ID of swing arm is 26.50 OD of bushings 26.4...

No they are tight. I'm certain they are original

Going by your measurements 0.02mm difference should not really make them that loose in the swing arm.

The measurements are as follows:-
OD 26.50
ID 21.40
Total length 44.00
Depth of top lip 2.00
OD of lip collar 31.90
Length excluding collar 42.00 (length sitting inside swing arm)

Measured (using the same mechanical caliper that I can rely on)
OD 26.40
ID 21.70 (yes, they have play over the brand new oem collar 52141-300-000)
Total length 44.0
Depth of top lip 1.80
OD of lip collar 32.00
Length exl collar 42

So seems there are discrepancies - too small OD too small ID. Maybe also lip not wide enough?

How it looks with when assembled - play. Is that normal?

If your measurements are correct, but I can also see discrepancies in your measuring, I would agree they are to small. I am wondering why they were not fitted by PO ? I wonder if they have been turned down for some reason.

You can't assess it like that. I have just measured 5 new bushes with the micrometer and they all measure an average if this [attachimg=1]

Thanks Julie

I fully understand what you say... but

Fact is old ones are impossble to push in by thumb, needs to be pressed in (or hammered in). I had to hammer them out.
New ones you can see from videos - zero effort to push them in..

Measurements - using digital caliper (almost all of them made in CHina nowadays) is not the best way, zero shifts.
So I took old (30 years) mechanical caliper and made all measuremens, there is no chance that zero shifts:

OD 26.40 -> Old one looks to be a bit bigger around 26.45 - 26.50
ID 21.70 (yes, they have play over the brand new oem collar 52141-300-000) -> forgot to measure old one but you said it should be 21.40 so 0.3mm diff
Total length 44.0 ->OK
Depth of top lip 1.80 -> 0.2mm less
OD of lip collar 32.00 ->OK
Length exl collar 42 - >OK

Sending you PM too
