Title: Tapeded Roller Steering Bearing Kit Question
Post by: Lynx on August 25, 2014, 08:39:37 PM
I've recently purchased a taper roller set for the front end refurb of my 400. I suspect the steering stem on the bike now is from a CJ360T as the spares I got with the bike seems to include a few for that model. It's too short to fit the washer under the stem nut and there is no hole in it for the steering lock bolt. I do have a spare which has the hole in the stem but The bearing kit comes with a choice of bottom washers and sealing washers. Any idea which ones I need to fit? Photo attached. There is a thick and a thin of each.

Thanks in advance.
Steve

If these kits come with 2 of each it is for the top and the bottom of the steam. Any paperwork with it?

Gosh Trigger, that was a fast reply. Yes the instructions say measure the original bearing stack and use the relevant washer or no washer to suit.

All the internal diameters are large. Not small to suit the top of the stem.

Just try different washer on the bottom until you get a good fit. You can tell if it is not right when you try to put the chrome dome nut on and it is tight but has a gap.

Yes I could do it like that but if I did have to take the bottom bearing off again, I'd probably knacker it up and have to buy a new set. That's what I'm try to avoid!

The bottom bearing is tight to the stem but, not that tight. Or put the bearings in the head stock and measure it to the stem.

Of course! I'll give that a go. Thanks.
