Title: powder coating how many parts?
Post by: antonypo on October 03, 2014, 10:05:58 PM
Well I have decided to powder coat in black although I'm tempted to match the colour of the tank but not sure it's the right thing to do.
Anyway how far do you go with this? I can imagine sending the frame and swing arm but do you send both yolks and what about the battery box and back brake arm?
What about the foot pegs?

I'm sure you will all have experience of this so looking forward to the replies.
Also been warned about the tag on the frame could get blown off in the process and devalue the bike without it??

You can have as many parts of the bike powder coated as you like, battery box and stands, footpegs etc, the powdercoat finish is far more resilient than paint so it is ideal for such parts (remember to ask for gloss finish) just make sure you get a quote up front, black is the only colour that will look ok on your frame, you can remove the data plate before sending the frame in, carefully remove the rivet heads with a small drill (very slow speed if you use an electric drill) then gently tap the rivets through with a centre punch, don't bother preparing the frame yourself just get it sand blasted, sand blasting and powder coating together cost me £200.

Just be careful i had a frame and swing arm done they powder coated where the swing arm bearings go, and a few other places where i didnt want paint, make sure you tell them where to plug and mask up, the last one i did was £120 for frame swingarm and all the brackets

3   Rear brake torque arm.
4   Oil tank
5   Top Yoke (Alloy)

8   Front indicator brackets left
9   Front indicator brackets right
10   Engine mount front (triangular)
11   Engine mount rear
12   Stoplight bracket (small L shape)
13   Left footrest: bracket
14   Left footrest: footrest
15   Left footrest: rubber protector.
16   Right footrest: bracket
17   Right footrest: footrest
18   Right footrest: rubber protector.
19   Passenger footrest bracket (left)
20   Passenger footrest bracket (right)
