Title: Cibie Headlamp
Post by: Chris400F on June 13, 2015, 06:29:23 PM
Saw this while browsing, don't know if may be of use to anyone wanting to upgrade their standard unit.
Markings on lens look the same as on the unit I have on my 400/4, not sure if the adaptor ring (to fit lamp into standard rim) would be the same.

Guess you can't have everything!
Still probably a great improvement on the standard unit, and a period aftermarket accessory.

We used to fit Cibie headlights to our 500 Fours in the seventies, together with TT100 tyres and Koni shocks.

Not a bad price to stop someone pulling out infront of you.

Mine is certainly concave, 5.75" across the inside of the adaptor ring.
It came off a CJ360 which would have had the same original light unit.
I don't know or remember if there was a choice of Z Beam or otherwise back in the day. Maybe the Z Beam came later.
Also noted the original listing is now ended but these lights do come up occasionally.

Just come across this listing:

Needs the bulb holder (and retaining spring(s)? Can't remember, would have to look and see how mine is held in).
Should give an improvement over the standard unit when complete.

Here's another, if anyone wants one. A great improvement over the standard unit. Apparently the fitting clips are included.

I bought one from M&P on eBay for mine.  It is a Superdream one but it has the correct profile rim.  Having said that, the rim wouldn't fit because the distance from the M5 threaded hole to the edge is about a mil out, so I used the existing rim.  An hour of fettling and I've got a normal looking headlamp with a 55/60W H4 bulb in it.  It cost me £31.
Here's the thread... CB750K1 Headlamp unit

Don't think the Cibie is a Z Beam but then it doesn't claim to be.

Period accessory or modern replacement, guess you pays your money and you takes your choice.
