Title: Anyone going to the Shepton Mallet Classic Bike Show (6/7 Feb)?
Post by: Drew400 on January 25, 2016, 05:21:56 PM
Hello all,

Is anyone going to the Classic Bike Show at Shelton Mallet on Sat 6th/Sun 7th Feb and wants to meet up there?

I plan to be there on Saturday but the weather will determine my mode of transport!

I'm not aware of any greeting protocol for forum members (e.g. maybe wearing a carnation and having a password?!), but if there is one, please post! Maybe you also know of a suitable location (club stand?) that we could migrate to at say noon on both days.

Maybe nice to put a few faces to forum names, eh?

Cheers, D.

Unfortunately I will not be able to be there this time. I have been told I cannot go out bike riding again or to anything 'nice' until I have finished helping dig out the base for the concrete floor for my new shed, help finish installing all his new equipment into his workshop, do the housework, ironing, cooking blablabla. I feel like bloody Cinderella at times  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Have a great time for those that can make it xx

I never worked this hard when I was working full time John, I really don't know where the time goes, well I do actually, it's spent running around the country picking up bikes, parts and equipment and such like. Never mind, keeps me out of mischief, well some times  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Shifter, agree with your sentiment and impressed re 150's... my Dad used to work at Gardners.

Noon it is (thank you VJMC).

Julie, you will go to the ball.... eventually.

Cheers all, D. (one month into retirement so still a novice... bit like my SOHC rebuilding credentials).

As someone who retired last year I should share my thoughts about work and retirement...........around the time that my Employer - Transport for London (TfL) decided that I was overpaid....along with my hard working and dedicated colleagues, and that they would not be increasing my salary or my annual bonus - or my Pension pot EVER again I started to think about early retirement.

A few weeks later TfL announced (it has to publish it's accounts as in effect it's a Government Department) that most of it's Directors were to receive an annual bonus of 'up to 50% of their salary'. The Commissioner enjoyed a salary of £330K + 50% bonus + a multi £M Pension pot........and received a Knighthood for leading TfL while it delivered a 'World Class Transport System for the 2012 London Olympic Games'.......although every Employee knew that was entirely due to it's dedicated and hard working Staff.

It didn't take me long to decide that after 20 odd years, TfL was no longer an organisation which I wanted to work for so I voted with my feet and retired a year early.

Would I do the same again.....you betcha.

As my best friend said to me when I asked for his advice (he had retired a year earlier).....'Just do it'......and that's the same advice I would happily give to anyone on this Forum.

I'm 66 in April and I will hopefully enjoy a good few years of good health and mobility, but at least I'm doing what I really want to do and enjoying every moment of every day.

Kind of agreeing with Trigger on that one .. love my job too much BUT if you had asked me two years ago I would have said the total opposite. Bit more time to actually put some bikes together would be great though, I must admit

Hey , Trigg & Ash , if you both win the lottery and still want to carry on working , you can pass on your winnings to me I'm sure I can use it to fund my hobbies 🤔

I'm ignorant of this show and had envisaged it being outdoor, given the venue is a showground, but all the pics look indoor? Need to atire the Girl appropriately, so can someone shed light on it for me, please?

Going Sunday. Is it one where folks start peeing off at Lunchtime, or isnit likely to be worthwhile all day?

TIA.

Wheeled the bike out this morning after putting leggings etc on and... Flat back tyre.  Nail in what's left of the treads.  I'm just getting over the lurgy so I thought to myself, Bugger it, I'm going back to bed.
If I'm going to fix a puncture,  I may as well replace the tyre, so that's next weekend's job.  Sorry to have missed chatting to you all, and the Taunton and Bridgwater mob.

John, you should have tried the Bratwurst outside by the entrance to the auction. Excellent and not too crazy expensive.  ;)
