That is not a sandcast and I have never seen matching numbers in my 27 years of building these engines ;)
-
About as sandcast as my cat, if it really has matching numbers it could be a ringer, done by someone who didn't know any different.
Sadly I don't see a $14k cafe racer, just a huge mental list of all the bits you'd need to make it right, but then that's me these days.

How come it's from California and the advert is all in German?

Scam?

Most likely because it is on German eBay (.de).
Here's the same bike from American eBay (.com).

Now you've made me see this, a 1969 K0 CB750 diecast barn find in Candy Blue Green, wrinkle tank, double cut fenders. I want. Unfortunately it's out in the middle of nowhere, Clarkston, Michigan USA. Buyer is responsible for vehicle pickup or shipping.

However I did notice this little gem in the small print.
Engine is stuck and if your not aware, these barn finds have over a 95% chance of being freed up with a breaker bar on the crank.
Please Greg, stay away from the bike with your breaker bar. It's called that for a very good reason.

The only way the numbers can match is
(1) its a Ringer
(2) the crankases were replaced and whoever did it stamped the wrong numbers into it
I would want detailed pictures of both stamped numbers and then at leat three decimal points knocked off cos its orrible
-
Couldn't it happen by accident and whats a Ringer?
-
A ringer is an English term for a stolen vehicle that has had it's identity changed (vin and engine numbers) to make it appear legal.

I did not know that. I learn something new on this forum every day ;D ;D
So, what is a dead ringer ? Is that a stolen bike that will not start ???

.....
Thanks.
That's an interresting bike (for me), because VIN 16217 is just some numbers higher than my bludgreen KO.
This one seems here to be a very genuine bike.
What I see is:
- production date of my 16.0xx is def. 12/1969
- double cut fender WITH speedo cable guard is correct on mine
What makes me wonder:
- wrinkle tank on 16.217 with chrome trim without black line . But no wrinkle tank with trim with black line on my 16.0xx
I am pretty sure that my bike has still the original tank. My theory is, that there was a second supplier for the tanks when production raised. This supplier made no- wrinkle tanks and took over total tank supply after a while. At least with K1.
- recessed ignition switch on 16.217
Again, my 16.0xx doesn't have it.
Maybe same as with the tanks? As with the tanks there are no different part-numbers for the KO ignition switches in the parts book.

My10/69 diecast doesn't have a wrinke tank / never did from new out of the dealers, according to the original PO. It had a non-stripe silver trim (original) and an alloy 'Antimon' fuel cap that had the original rivet pins in it with no sign it had ever been changed, as you have to de-peen or drill them to remove them, which is always obvious. Work that one out the VIN is 10103XX (UK bike). I often wonder if it was damaged in transit but unlikely as the same dealer registered another K0 on the same day, one reg No. up from mine. He was one of Honda's star dealers at the time and won trips to Japan 'cos he sold so many bikes .. I guess they were mainly C100/C50 chicken chasers to local factories... so he must have got his hands on two K0's from the first batch of 20 bikes imported by Honda UK to 'test the water' after poor CB450 twin sales over here. Sadly the other bike is on the DVLA database but unreg'd for yonks so probably long gone now.

That proves my theory, as my later 18.9xx (01/70) has a wrinkle tank. And a recessed ignition switch.
Does your 12/69 has the recessed ignition switch?

Recessed ignition switch, black kill switch etc. Everything apart from wrinkle tank Uli its 10/69 not 12/69

Seems I'll have to replace the ignition switch on my 16,0xx.
Allways good to have one in the drawer.

;) lol sad init im going to go with bryan on this .
that hes stamped the engine same has the frame easy mistake to make if they are not clued up
thats why i hate custom bikes some guys dont know what they are doing,or what they have got.if that was genuine its junk now
if it was the real deal he should have put it back original and would have known that.apart from the tank badges there is nothing that tells me its a sandcast or a k0
its probably a bitsa bike anyways, talking of bitsa, bsa dont have matching numbers either,i never new that until i owned a couple myself ;)
