I have a spare very solid dent free front mudguard from an early 500/4 (has holes for front number plate). The rust is quite light, not penetrating, but the chrome has gone completely. How much hassle is involved in preparing for re-chroming and is it worth it? My current mudguard has become somewhat like a colander and I have to put gaffer tape on it to stop water flying up at the front.
I have been following a few on ebay but the price seems to go quite a lot higher than I want to pay and they are often not that good.

You can pick up a repro one these days for £95. If you lived closer to me mate, you could go through my old stock of mudguards and shocks for free.
-
Not worth rechroming. At least 100 from a decent chromer. Typically 70 quid for the blade and 20 each for the stays/centre piece

Thanks for the advice, clearly a non starter.
Thanks for the offer Trigger but I see you live miles away in the Viking lands. :)
Looks like I will have to keep looking on ebay for that slightly scruffy pitted but functional cb500t mudguard for under £50. There must be one out there somewhere.
Best wishes

Well, I thought the uk 500t one was the same as the 500/4. My bike is 500/4 1974.
Thanks for the links. If the 500t one is the same then to first one may be just the job.

actually, I will try a stupid offer on the DK one and see what happens.....

BTW Ash, glad to see you are a JA fan. It was listening to Jack Casady's playing that inspired me to take up the bass.

The 500T guard should be the same as the CB550, the UK unit had twin stays and the USA ones had the single. Also the forks are the same as the 550 ;)

also, I think the 750 one fits 500?

Not the early 750's ;)
