I bought the whole set with wires and bulbs for my 500/4 some years ago and worked well. Can’t remember where from but could have been the USA. If no luck a USA forum may well have a source.

Many thanks both. I ride it plenty, I guess it’s the valve guide oil seals, but it’s not bad enough for a top end overhaul. I’ll try the idle mixture anyway and see how that goes.

Hi all. I know the ideal is a top end rebuild BUT with only gradual sooting of the plugs, I have switched back from NGK D8EA to D7EA as I understand they run slightly hotter which I think should help. I expect it is pretty marginal, but to take it a step further has anyone used D6EA (which I think is the lowest number available)?

Hi Paul, looks very good. What is the eBay fee like?

For my 500/4 the Motobatt AGM battery came with a plastic spacer that needed to be removed. Obviously I noticed this and didn’t try fitting it with it on 🤦
The battery is lasting very well.

Thanks again to Ted, and Julie. I found the 5.4/9.4 pipe from Planet Silicone and although I tried buying clips, I found the ones I already had were a better fit, helped by a touch of red rubber grease helping them slide along the pipe. After locking the twistgrip open and taking the seat and side panel off for better access, I put the clips on and slid the pipe forwards through the holes in the carb plate, then manipulated them with a small screwdriver and ultra long nose pliers, plus a little red rubber grease in the pipe made a big difference, also pushing the tight clip along gently with the screwdriver tip. These are the clips 9.8mm to 10.4mm:

Hi Ted, I had one go and (for now) got away with a longer screw which reached some unused thread, and not over- tightened. Just a thought.

CB500/550 / Carb leak…not/new fuel lines just done
« on: June 10, 2024, 09:42:53 AM »
Just a note to say it looks like what I thought were leaks from float bowl joints (supposedly due to float valves letting by) was actually coming from the union of the fuel pipe on the carb. Now hopefully sorted by pushing the pipe on a bit more and twisted wire reinforcement. Just in case anyone else has had the same.

Just a mention for SPORTSBIKESHOP_LTD who offered no charge when a pair of overtrousers I swapped sizes was refunded twice accidentally by eBay. I will of course see them right but good customer service worth a mention.
