Stripped and cleaned the oil pump, packed rotors with petroleum jelly, reassembled. Cranking with no plugs, oil light out. Next step, plugs in, test tank on and hopefully it will start.

Before engine removal, oil light would go out after about 10 kicks as the battery was no good. I daren't risk starting it if the oil filter is empty.

Had engine out to renew cyl base gasket. Dropped sump and cleaned oil pump filter. Engine back in, oil in tank, new filter. Cranked engine with plugs out, expecting oil light to go out. Poured a pint or so of oil through tappet cover no good. Took filter housing off, bone dry. Dropped exhaust and sump cover, took oil pump off. Have dismantled pump and plan to do what we did when renewing car oil pumps. Pack it with Vaseline to make it prime. No Vaseline in home and it's 20.00, will get some in morning. Will that work and why wouldn't the pump pick the oil up. Engine was last run 4 weeks ago. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

Took the engine out of the K6, barrel base oil leak. All good except for pistons, ring lands worn. discovered another barrel and pistons in good shape, apart from a missing ring. Got a ring set and was about to swap pistons. Compression rings were 10 thou thicker, couldn't source correct rings. Had to assemble with worn. What are the barrels from? I can't remember. I did buy a K7 in pieces and also a K6 with spares. Thanks Peter

Peter OAP next April. Living in Bristol. Been riding bikes for 50 years. Did my apprenticeship at Fowlers of Bristol. Been retired for some years. Eleven Hondas. 2 360 G5s 2 250 G5 3 350 K3, K4 1 K7 750 1 K6 750 1 F1 750 1 KZ 750
All bar a 350 K4 have been dead for many years, now have 5 running again. Have just removed the K6 engine to fix an oil leak from barrel base. Had a barrel with much better pistons, however found it had thinner rings, assuming it's a K7. I have loads of assorted parts collected last 20 years. I have a full engine gasket set, however am at a loss to find what 5 rubber rings, approx. 5/8 diameter are for. Have to refit exh valve springs and then head on. Have to replace carb rubber stubs, they are rock hard.
