How have you found the motogadget has performed now that you have had it for a while, I have just bought an m unit, m button, push buttons and new loom?
I looking at positioning the unit next to all the original kit in my new battery box before sending the frame to powder coat

Thanks Steve, sorry I haven't been checking my posts and missed your offer of a disc but much appreciate the effort
I managed to source one from DK and it arrived yesterday so will get it on the bike today

Thanks Guys, just to recap
The arm definitely doesn't travel over the top of the disc as I suspected it should (thanks hairygit), I have checked the part number of the arm and actually I have two different arms now which are (I believe) the right part for the bike. The disc diameter is 296mm (brianj) is that a 750 disc?
Which is easier/ least expensive, change the disc or can I fit a 750 arm which will fit the disc without changing the lower fork tubes?

I would appreciate some advice on fitting a front brake caliper arm to my 1974 cb550ko. When I bought the bike as a USA imported barn find it didn't come with a front brake assembly. I have now bought two new brake caliper arms of eBay because they don't seem to fit onto the front fork without clashing with the top of the brake disc. I have checked all of the usual resources but nothing seems to illustrate the assembly on the bike and as it was never fitted on my bike when stripping it down I have no back reference, so....
Should the the arm be able to swing over the top of the disc because I assume that the arm centres on the disc and the caliper sits either side, or
Am I being totally mislead and the arm actually does sits spoke side of the disc and does actually clash with it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks John, it was a great help. The mistake I was making was that I was working on the rong set of tappets I looked for cylinder 1 to be tight at TDC and in fact they should have been loose before starting. Anyway all sorted now

I was wondering if I could beg some advice please?
I have just rebuilt the top end of my engine and I am finishing off by setting the tappets. I have set cylinders 1 and 4 to the correct tolerances but when I try to adjust the tappet screws on 2 & 3 the valve seems to follow the adjustment screw as I loosen it even to the point when I take the screw out completely I can't get the gauges between the rocker arm and the top of the valve?
I've kind of left it for a beer and a head scratch but wondered if I've missed something obvious before taking the rocker cover off again?

I am starting to put my top end back together on my 550 and wondered if I should put some liquid gasket (hondabond etc) on along with the new gaskets?
It makes sense but I am just concerned that it will be a pig to separate them again in the future?

Hello All
This is my first post on here albeit I have been picking up some great tips and advice from you all, thanks
I have undertaken a restoration/ customisation of a 1974 cb550ko (USA import) taken on as a non runner and I am slowly working through each element cleaning it over and checking for nasties. So far so good, the carbs are now nice and shiny (all of what looked like molasses cleaned out of the float bowls etc) and I am now stripping down the top end cleaning valves, honing cylinders and fitting new rings and seals.
With the exception of finding large parts of the Nevada desert in various places it seems to be in fairly good nick for the age with little or no rust on the frame, the biggest area of corrosion appears to be on the upper end of the fork tubes with slight pitting on the lower ends. I have tried most of the various methods of trying to clean it off (coke and alu foil etc) but it seems like it's through the chrome and I will either need to change them or re -chrome
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated
